Tire HELP!

Ok, so I understand tire sizing, thats the good thing. But heres the deal. One of my tires just pooped on me, So in my search for one tire, I found a pretty good deal. The company I bought my wheels from might hook me up with some 20x8.5 20.10 Black DD Bullits in exchange for my used chrome DD Bullits (Same Size). I've been wanting to try black wheels for some time now. Anyway right now I have 255/35/20s on the front & 285/30/20s on the rear. I love the width, but I hate how small the sidewall is. Is it just me or does not only the sidewall but he wheel itself look to small. Even lowered cars just don't look right to me. My question is is it possible to put a say 295/45/20 in the back and 265/50/20 up front? that would put the overall diameter at 30.45 in the rear and 30.43 in the front. I really just want to fill up those wheel wells. I know I would loose some power and I can readjust the ratios with my tuner, but will it fit? Has anybody done this? I really just want more sidewall on my 20s which requires lengthening the diameter (And I don't want 18s). Has anbody done anything like this? Anybody have any suggestions? Thoughts? Call me an idiot?

I know what you're talking about. You can always lower more to get rid of a vertical gap, but the wheel arch is so huge that you still have gaps in front and behind, and the curve of the arch doesn't follow the tire. I think a 30.5" tire is too big though. That's an SUV tire.

If you're not lowered, 295-40-20 (29.3") will fit and fill the wheel well about as full as it get.

If you're lowered, then you probably need something shorter to avoid rubbing. I know you can easily get a 275-40-20 (28.6" - and inch to inch an half taller than what you see on most Mustangs) on the back of a lowered car, because that's what I have now. It looks better to me as far as the height goes than the 30 series I see on most Mustangs. Wider would be nice, but all the choices seem to drop to a much lower aspect ratio after that, so it's rubber band tires. A 305-35 would probably be ideal in width and height, but it's really hard to find that size.

very true, the next step down from the 295/45/20 & 265/50/20 would be a 295/40/20 out back and 275/35/20 up front. Thats the closest I could find in the KDW2s which is what I really want. My only concern with that setup is putting a 275/35/20 on an 8.5in rim up front. Also, that would put the overall diameters for the back at 29.29 and 27.57 for the front.. That might be too much rake.... OOO boy

I could go with 245/40/20s up front which would put the diameter at 27.71

Have you seen Socal.2fast (Orange Mustang w/Silver stripes)? He is running 295/40/20's in the rear and 255/40/20's in the front. I am running Firestone Wide Oval 275/35/20's on all four corners and I have a staggered wheel set up. It has been O.K. but it does not seem like enough rubber in the back for me. The front tires actually look bigger because they are on a smaller 9" wheel vs. my 10" wheel in the back. I know 315/35/20's, 305/35/20's, 295/40/20s, and 285/30/20's are available and they will all work on Saleen wheels. Can't say for certain for other wheels due to different off-sets. IMO the 295/40/20's in the back look the best and the taller sidewall should give better traction! I will probably keep my 275/35/20's up front and rotate them out since I will have (4) 275/35/20's. I know Firestone Wide Ovals are available in 295/40/20 and 245/40/20. You can't beat them for the price!

I have a 295/45-18(28.3" tall)on the rear and it is dropped about 1.3" and it sits pretty close to the fender. I don't know if I'd try a 30.4" tall tire lowered, but stock suspension it should fit no problem. I'd say 30" on the front is way to much lowered or stock. My 255/45-18(27")fits nicely(front is lowered 1.6")in the fender.

Your set up looks perfect! If I had 18" wheels that is exactly the tire size I would go with. The car I saw a car with 295/40/20's and it looks great but I do not know if the car is lowered or not. I am lowered 1.5" in the back and 1.0" in the front. I would be afraid of going much taller than my 275/35/20 in the front.

I'd like to try the Nitto 555R 305/45-18 which is .5" taller and wider than I have now, but my car is driven daily and I don't think a DR would do me much good as I drive nearly 30K miles/year
