Has anyone here tinted their mustang themselves? I know most get it done professionally, but I personally like working on my car myself, so if I can do it myself I would. Has anyone done this? I hear the back window is the most difficult to do. Or maybe I should just get the professionals to do it.

Also how much should a professional tint cost?

Unless you know what you're doing, I would advise against it. I can't count the number DIY tint jobs I've seen that looked like total crap. Window tinting isn't that expensive so other than the feeling of accomplishment, I don't see why you'd want to do it yourself.

I went professional. It only cost me $135. That is with a Lifetime Warranty. My dad and I attempted to tint windows on a different car many years ago, and it got done, but it was way too much trouble. The pros can do it in just a few hours. Save the do it yourselfs for some other fun mods!

just pay for a professional and get the lifetime warranty. Tinting is too easy to screw up if you haven't done it yourself. Besides, it's relatively cheap.

I'm pretty handy and do most of my work on my own, but as others have said, get it done professionally. I've done several myself and it always seems to look like crap. I thing the problem is that the tint shops are able to get a much better quality window film than the crap you can buy at an auto store.

$150 for me with Lifetime warranty. I, too, have seen too many DIYs that bubble within a years time.

yes the reason why most DYI tints look like crap is because the quality of film, you can choose from a wide variety from a pro and get quality the stuff they sell at stores is crap, its not like with some practice you couldnt get good at it, but first time it will be bad, I've done it a couple of times and tinted normal windows and each one I did got better as there really isnt much too it, just patience and practice, but it is real easy to screw up, you can also buy the quality stuff yourself but they usually only sell it in bulk and it wouldnt be worth it unless you plan on doing your entire neighborhoods cars....all that said, Id pay for it to be done right the first time its worth it.

The sides and 1/4's would be no problem. It's the back that a pain. It's hard to get tint in the size needed to do it in one piece. I helped my tint guy do mine, he was working on the sides and I did the 1/4's. The rear he did in one piece. He actually laid the tint on the outside of the back window 1st and used a heat gun to shrink it to the compound curve of the glass. Then he trimmed it to an exact fit, still on the outside, while I held a shop light on the inside so he could see the edges properly. Then it was a juggling act to get that big piece of film inside the car and all the way back into the rear deck without it picking up any crud! It took both of us to do it right! All said and done, it came out almost perfect, we go a couple of carpet fibers under the tint, but they're no biggy. After that, he said he didn't know if he wanted to do any more '05 stangs, said that rear would be a killer by yourself. Because helped, he only charged me $100 and it's a lifetime warranty.
