Thoughts on aftermarket wheel quality?
In I'm the market for some new rims for my 05 GT.
Been looking locally for a set of OEM mint bullit or GT500 wheels.
(As I'm under the "belief" that OEM are better quality??)
I've got limited expierence with aftermarket wheels
(Last pair was back in the 80's!) and they were DEFINATELY
Poorer quality! And didnt hold up very long to every day driving.
Just curious what others think about the quality
Of aftermarket wheels?

I can tell you that Steeda makes very high quality aftermarket wheels.
Steeda's Spyder wheels offer great style and strength. Using a low pressure casting process gives these wheels lower weight than standard gravity cast wheels. (OE wheels are normally a low-pressure casting of some kind too).
Let me know if you are interested in our selection and I can provide more details ... you can check them out here:![](http://www.steeda.com/store/ford-mustang-wheels.html)

Thanks TJ
Not exactly an unbiased opinion....but I appreciate the response!
(there was nothing there that I was interested in.)
Just looking for stock bullit or Shelby wheels in 17 or 18" at most!

The cheapest, heaviest and weakest wheels are gravity cast wheels. Next up on the food chain are the pressure cast wheel. The top of the line are the forged wheels. They are pound-per-pound the strongest, but manufactures uses less aluminum to get the weight down for performance use. So relative strength is about the same. If you hit a curb with a cast wheel, it will break. A forged wheel will bend.
That is unbiased as I can get.

I'll chime in here, I've had some experience with aftermarket wheels on two different Mustangs. I know that the wheels I've had were cast wheels of some sort, as the price I was paying wasn't for forged wheels. Both sets of wheels that I had were of great quality. I never had any issues with the rims that I've had. I never ran over a curb or anything like that, so I can't tell you from those extremes of how the wheels would have behaved. Both sets of wheels, I did take them to the 1/8 mile track here in town. My cars were stock (power wise), so I wasn't trying to pump gobs of power through them to a sticky track. They withstood the amount of abuse that I dished out to them.
I had AFS 18x9" Mach 1 replica wheels on my 2001 GT convertible.
I currently have Sport Muscle 20x9" Tach wheels on my 2006 GT convertible.

Thanks guys, but I'm more concerned with them looking good after a few years? The last set I bought ( back in the late 80's)
Look good for about a year before they started flaking and peeling...
I don't drive my mustang like a race car, so I'm not concerned
With stress cracks etc.....
Just under the impression (right it wrong)
That the finishes aren't up to par with the oem wheels...
