I used waxed dental floss to saw through the double sided tape....worked like a charm and didn't leave a mark on the car. The thin layer of tape that remained on the car, pulled off with my fingers...didn't use a hair dryer or heat gun....took only 5 minutes or so per emblem.

I just used a heat gun on low for a few seconds. Before it cooled I slipped a fingernail under the corner and started pulling. Came off with all of the adhesive intact in one quick motion. No fuss, no muss. Of course in my case it had only been on the car for about 8 days, but I would imagine the result would be the same no matter the vintage of the badges.
