Stripes template?

I work as a designer for a design firm and we have a client who does printing for us. He also can laser cut vinyl. In our office we have graphics all along the walls. After looking at it, I would guess that this is not much different than the vinyl used for stripes. I've got a few color samples coming, and I'm going to see how they stick to the car. I was thinking maybe a tiny sliver under the hood, or in the trunk.

And if this works, this will be a fraction of the cost of getting stripes done elsewhere. So my question is, are there any templates for stripes. Most of it will be pretty simple since they are just solid pipes. But the main issue is getting them around the windshield sprayer. And thats basically all im looking for. Is there any place that already has it knocked out to scale in an editable file format like Illustrator?

It’s not a program but it has measurements. You would just have to calculate for the length on the s197.http://www.nvsaac.com/photogallery/i...ns_stripes.jpg

Washer nozzles come out pretty easy so you can remove them before installing the stripes then cut the openings for the holes and re-install nozzles.

Cool. That'll work I guess.

GrnT - I know its about measurements. Was just wondering if someone had already done the measurements, and thrown them into a file.

But I guess if the nozzles come out, I can just do that.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this. One of the options he has is Clear matte. So whatever its placed on with have a matte look to it. We use it for the walls, and windows. It makes the windows look laser etched, and the walls just look a shade different than they are. Its pretty cool. So would think this would look sweet on a black car.

Plus, I run my own e-commerce site on the side. And the money I make from the site is enough to pay for the car. So what I would like to do, is very subtley add the domain name to outter sides of the strips on the hood. So when people walk up to the car to get a better look, they see it. And it wont be noticeable from more than 10 feet away.

ok, so maybe it isn't the biggest deal in the world. Got an estimate back. I was looking for 12in racing stripes. The guy said that it would be best if I go 11.5, since sheets come 24in wide, and the cutter tears up about 1 inch. He said it should be less than $200, and that he would help me install them. Which it could be worth it, because the stuff he put on our walls and windows are precision work.

Have you figured out the dimensions yet?
The stripes shouldn't be 12 or 11.5" the whole length of the car. They vary from front to back so you don't get that train track look.
Here's an example from the first gen mustangs: http://site.cobranda.com/tech/lemans.pdf

Depends on the look he is going for. Not all stripes vary. Only a few people on this site have installed the old style stripes that vary in width.

Gotcha. I know on the older cars which is what I do they look funny if the stripes are all the same width.

I guess I've never noticed that some stripes are wider and narrower. But for most everybody else, Im sure they wouldn't notice either. I guess I was looking for perfect stripes.

Ive been looking at the Stripes thread trying to figure out the best way to go around the rear license plate. And I noticed that some people have their stripes going through that area. How did they do it? It looks seamless, but the small photos don't really show any detail if they are separate pieces, or seams.
