Well I just dropped my car off 25 min ago, she will be stripped 2morrow morning!!! Can't wait, I'll get the call around lunch time and be sooo excited to get her with her new stripes on her! But I feel so lonely now not having her here, but I was amazed with this guy when I dropped the car off. I went in and I went to the woman who works at the front desk, I asked her where to park the car, she said to part it along the fence. So I went to park it, then the guy whom I've had 20 min convo's with, comes out and says, here let me take it. Takes the car, opens the gate, rolls up a garage bay door, clears out a honda accord missing a front end, and parks my car in the garage and locks the garage door! I was like, WOW, now I could go home and know my baby is safe. But he was def. excited cause this was his first time up close with the new Mustang and he was going on how he loved the new style and when i told him the stripes were white, he was like, Good Choice!! Too bad for the Honda Accord though, but it looked like a young buck probably drove it anyways, looking at the rice parts all over it, including the big-hiney fart can that you cant ignore on the back end of the car, front end was messed up pretty bad. But I'll keep you all posted and I'll start a new post 2morrow when I get back with pics!!

I'll tell you, the support here really helped! Having had/have vinyl on her now I can say that if it's done right it would look great. It's simply stunning to stand back and look - when I drive her around you'd think I was some bathing beauty strolling down the street... She does look sooooo sweet with the stripes on. It's gonna be a KILLER to have to wait for the paint guy to start on her...
One thing that you REALLY need to keep in mind is that if you go with vinyl, in a few short years (perhaps less than five) you're going to need to think about having them replaced. Pretty much everyone I talked to mentioned that if you use your car for a daily driver the sun is going to kill the vinyl sooner, ESPECIALLY if you live in an area where its hot. In Sacramento here, we routinely have years where we have SIX MONTHS of heat straight. I'm told that the vinyl REALLY TAKES A BEATING this kind of environment (apparently it's not the heat but the constant UV that does them in??). I asked if there was any way to make it so that my stripes would last much longer (5-10 years+) and was told no. Then you have the problem with having them removed, the paint cleaned up, and then reapplied... For me, this is an issue. I hope to keep the car unitl I'm gone, and I'm going to always want stripes on her. Sounds like the paint is the ticket for me.
Now I have to find a way to keep the paint nice when I'm a daily driver!! I'm so very careful on a day to day basis, but I can't keep those rocks from flying up when I drive my 15 miles one way to work each day...
What about those clear bras? Is that a practical alternative for keeping your paint nice?

The installer is due in the next few hours to come over to uninstall the stripes... Someone is going to have to hold me up when I see what's underneath...

Ok, the installer came and de-installed the stripes. He brought the refund with him and the stripes are off. In some ways, the knife marks are worse than I thought, but in other ways it's not so bad. In some places there are no knife cuts. In other places it's FEET long. If you see her from 5 feet and it's not in bright sun or angle isn't right you can't see the marks in most places. On the rear bumper and trunk the knife marks are visible at ANY angle. In all cases you can feel the marks if you run your finger over them.
All should be ok in three weeks!
It's going to be a LONG wait!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the jerk is a part time baggage handler at the airport ... or maybe that is his primary occupation. There should not been a scratch on it.

Good luck with the paint. Ask lots of questions. Are they going to feather it in and / or clear coat it. If they don't feather it in, it will look worse than any vynil job. If he is not planning to remove the front and rear bumper covers, walk away. Might be a few more bucks to do that, but its worth it.

PS - you can stll take him to small claims court for the rest. Just have at least three quotes from professional body shops for the repair estimate, and document everything that has happened.

At this point there's no reason to take him to court. The Hot Rod painter guy says he can easily fix what's been done during the painting process. There's no extra charge for doing this, so I'm not out any extra money. He'd going to clear the whole car and make it so that there is no way to feel the line in the paint - a nice feather and NO edge. Sweet!
I can't wait!

You're going to LOVE those stripes.

I drove my VB vert from the dealer directly to the body shop. Got her back a week later, but WHOA, what a difference.

Check out the link to my gallery in my signature

Yeah, the link isn't working for me anymore either. I'm not sure what's going on.

I didn't want to put it right in the shop, but no one knew the car was coming, and my wife convinced me to get the stripes done before anyone saw the car for the full effect.

I have never seen an O5 vinyl stripping job around my area that was straight and without problems. Paint can have its problems too. If the prep is good, booth is free of foreign particles and the painter is experienced and has pride the results can be awesome.

All the reasons I do not like vinyl and recommend againist it. Oh, well live and learn. Good that all will be OK in a short time. Hope the painting turns out as good as you are seeing on other customers.

Saw Maverick's stripes... they look great!

Guess 1st time doing a Mustang doesn't always mean 'bad job'.

I saw a maroon 06 with new stripes yesterday striaght from the dealer and even those weren't quite right. I was suprised that they weren't better applied... Perhaps I'm just too picky!

Ok, now I've seen a bunch of stripes applied post purchase of the car and seen lots of poor applications. Many aren't straight, have wrinkles, gaps, etc...
Look for an installer like MaverickMLFD371 has! His look great. I'm starting to understand why my installer tried to tell me that I wouldn't get a better job in town! There aren't many!

Last word - be careful!!

Just remember, his are from a pre-cut set so very easy to install.
Most of the bad jobs (wrinkles, bad gaps, etc) are installed using straight cut stock that was not cut using a machine, like yours was. The more pre-cut kits on the market, the more installs you will see that are good. Your car was proof that if someone doesn't know what they are doing they should not attempt to install stripes from straight cut stock, whereas my car is proof that if they know what they are doing it will look just as good, if not better Keep in mind I did the stripes on my car before anyone was selling pre-cut kits

Our guy does precut or custom cut, all perfect. No gaps anywhere, only around the rear plate can you see any paint.
