Hey Guys,

I'm lookin to get the Steeda Cowled hood when I get back from Iraq. I was wondering if you all had any problems with the hood flying up? the web page suggests that one installs hood pins if you plan to go faster than 85mph.

Any insight would be helpful, hoodpins after a few months start to rust and scrape and look terrible. IMO

Check this link for instructions on adding pins: Pins I followed the instructions and had great luck with mine. The work may seem extreme at first, but it isn't as hard as it sounds. If you get decent quality stainless steel pins, they wont rust on you, and scraping can be kept to a minimum by not tightening the pins down so much. It is better than having your hood fly up on you. In that case you lose the hood, maybe your windshield, maybe your life. You take care over there, ok? :usa:

 

I know the dangers of having the hood fly up but I see lots of guys in the boards with the hoods and no pins. Do you need pins with a Fang Performance hood?

I hate pins with a passion, but I hate hoods flying up into my windshield more.

I am not aware of anyone on this site with a Fang hood. Fang sells twist-type pins also, but that doesn't mean they are necessary. RKSport never mentioned pins being necessary, but most on this site have added them to the CA Dream Hood. Many pics on this site were taken before pins were installed. I know I have some pre-pin pics, but my hood wasn't stable above 65 without them. Maybe Fang's hood will be better. Try e-mailing them and just asking up front if most of their cusotmers use them or not. I hadn't planned on installing them. I certainly hadn't planned on removing the whole front fascia to do it. Afterwards, though, I kinda like the look. It says old school muscle car!

 

My Torch Red Steeda Q has the Sparco hood pins. This is the install photo on Steeda’s web site of my hood and pins. They have been on the car for over a year and are not rusty at all if that is your concern. Also the cool thing about these is a passer by can't steel the pins because the plate contains them. I get a lot of complements on the looks of these pins on my car.

 

I have real functional pins on my steeda hood, and i have no problems with hood moving at all.....i wouldntt est it though w/o them...... iveh eard of stock hoods flying up at high speed....wouldnt trust glass. - Roger

 

I would have to agree now that I think about it. The hood hangs over the fascia a lot and wind could just take it off. And I guess they do look tough.

I dont like hood pin at all. I will use them when I get my hood in I just ordered from Champion. They recomend hood pin for over 80mph for the 05 Mustang. I read somewhere on a factory test car a factory hood flew up.

I cant speak for the install as Steeda installed them on my car before I purchased the Torch Red Q. They sell for around $30 dollars on the Steeda web site. You have to be careful when you shut the hood setting it down and pushing it into the factory lock. I think you would have to do this regardless of whose pins you used.

 

I have old style pins, they are shelby pins, and i let my hood drop from about half way, no movement no problem. - Roger

 

You almost need pins on the stock hood. Any aftermarket mustang ,fiberglass or CF, hood should have pins. I don't neccesarily like the look of hood pins, can't say I like the look with lanyards either but if it's needed and it works, Do it.

 

aftermarket hoods r actually heavier than the stocker too.....

 

They have increased flow also.
