Slowly it is coming together....
I have an '05 Mineral and since purchasing it used I have been in the process of slowly gathering parts to make my own Retro Restyled. Basically I am taking cues from some Stangs of yesteryear that I like most. '65-'66 GT Fender emblems, '69 Mach1 hood, Mach1/Boss rear spoiler, Mach1 chin spoiler and ducktail spoiler. Etc etc etc.
Anyway something new just came in and I wanted to show it off. A lot of the other parts are insignificant but this was beautiful.
Reon from CDC was the absolute best in saving me money on this purchase.
The Hood is normally priced $1100, CDC has it for $350. He had me ship it to a terminal to save me the $100 shipping charge.
It is all aluminum and as light as the ViS carbon fiber hood on my Eclipse.
Well here it is..

Actually I am getting rid of the stripes after a much deliberated internal arguement. I love how Rich's black stripes look on his Mineral. My Mineral has some silver type of stripes that are absolute junk and don't do the color justice like black stripes do.
Soooo.. I have come up with a happy design. I think.
I'm too picky and can never lock down what I want.
Like I said I would like to go with a collection of styles for my retro tribute Stang. I will have black rocker stripes that either say GT-TK a la the whole Shelby GT-H and the GT350/500. Or using my initials FR and do a Shelby esque logo that says FR/TK-1. I love that my initials are the same as Ford Racing.
As for the hood it is looking like it will get painted Mineral and Black with the measurements from the 1969 Mach1 hood. The plastic cowling under the wiper blades will also be painted Mineral and Black to match the '69 pattern that runs right up to the windshield.
Rear spoiler will be painted gloss black as well. I know the hood and spoiler should be flat black but I want them glossy, especially for waxing purposes. I'm trying to find a ducktail spoiler that will mimic the the lip of the trunk deck on the '69. So if anyone has any good recommendations I'd appreciate it. So far Street Scene seemed like the best option.
Agent47 mirrors and rear faux gas cap will be ordered from Marcello and SHR when I get the money for those two parts.
A chin spoiler will be needed.
Rims are one of my biggest headaches and I am all over the place with which ones I want.
Last thing will be the grille because I haven't found one that I like cause I want one that is similiar to the one on the '69.
Wish list is maybe a GT/CS fascia because I think that looks so much better with a chin spoiler added to it.
Once the exterior is all done I get to work on some unique touches for the interior.

I hear you on the "back and forth" between different designs. I do it all the time and wheels are probably the number one item I struggle to decide on. I actually love the VMR V710's, but of course those don't come in the right bolt pattern and I decided against experimenting with redrilling them. Have you thought about any of the exterior parts that Cervini's sells? They have an M1, that is inspired by past gen Machs.
I have but their kits are very pricey. I do like their pedestal wing and ducktail combo though. Their hood is longer than the OEM S197 and requires an extension for the headlights and such.
I'm also on the fence about a shaker or hood scoop. Heh

If you do elect to go with a scoop, I would vote for the shaker, but with that said, the install is a little more involved than some of the other scoops. So far, I'm leaving my hood plain, but I'm also going to a more modern Mustang look.
I'd love a shaker and it would really fit my blurry vision of what I want it to look like, however it is a rather pricey option also.
And I would love to grab a New Edge and make it look like a more modern beast. Very aggressively styled.
But for now I'm going to be satisfied with this project to replace the Mustangs long since reigned out of my life.

You might be able to score a used shaker if you keep an eye out for one. I've seen a couple pop up on different Mustang forums from time to time. That would be a good way to get what you want and save some coin. Or keep an eye out for sales and garage sales at the manufacturers. I've picked up a few of my parts this way to help manage my "mod" budget.
Hey Frank, if I can help you with anything let me know. I have changed the way my car looks many times and maybe I can save you some headaches. Personally I really like black on Mineral Grey because it pulls alot of the brown out.
That hood will look awesome on your car and great score on the price. I can't wait to see that on your car.

Thanks UM. I've been scouring sites on an almost daily basis for any deals and such I can find. Trying to prove to the lady and several other non believers that you can mod a car without destroying a bank account.
Hey Rich. I love the black on your Stang. I agree with you that it really just looks right when done that way. And what do you think of the shaker hood, yay or nay? Is it worth doing? I mean for nostalgia purposes it would really top it off I think.
So many choices.... I might need to pick up a Shelby GT from Brandon Ford. I swear it is a Mineral with black stripes. Maybe tomorrow I will peek in.

The shaker is purely a cosmetic mod but I like mine and I'm not sorry that I did it. I got a crazy good deal on the shaker though or I would have never spent that much money, especially since I cut most of the trim off.
If the Shelby GT is MG it is a clone. They didn't make the Shelby GT in 05 and that's the only year that MG has been offered in the S197 body style.

I don't to hijack Frank's thread but the shaker does zero to cool the engine but I do have it plumbed to force some air into the filter. As far as HP gains go I would have to say "none"!
No hijacking here Rich. You actually answered something I thought was true like 5.0. Always swore that the shaker had the option of being fuctional or cosmetic. Interesting news.
And it is time to call Marcello and grab me a new faux gas cap and some agent 47 mirrors.
