Silver Horse Lower Grille Insert?

Does anyone have these:

How easy is it to install, what type of material is it made of, and do you have any pics showing the installation process? Where's the best place to buy them from?

You're kidding right? Seriously. Buy them DIRECT from Marcello. ie., Silverhorseracing.com They are a "snap" to put in. And will not come out without a "twist". They finish off the lower grille the way FORD should have, and protect the coolant system, that hangs open in that space begging for rocks and road debris to hit it.
There are many a thread on SHR here, and a lot of photo's in the gallery section too. The Material match's the FORD OEM stuff to a tee.

I did a search and found out people just called it the SHR grille insert, which made it more difficult to find from my initial queries. I've never purchased anything from SHR so I wasn't sure if they were just a vendor selling someone else's part or a direct manufacturer.

My concern is that they'd pop out over time (like a few people here who lost their grilles) or rub against the painted fascia. The holes in the grille are too large to prevent rocks and bugs from denting the condenser, and anything large enough to be blocked by the honeycomb would probably break or push the grille (like a 20 lb raccoon) or would have destroyed the A/C condenser anyhow, which leaves gluing (yuck) and riveting (not on my bumper) the only attachment solutions.

Metro, they don't touch the outer part of the painted bumper. they sit behind the lower plastic bumper insert. And believe me, they won't come out, unless you don't put them in correctly, or you consistanly take the out and reinstall them. I took mine out when I was up at the MCA show in Canada. Had to remove them, so I could get to the condensor, to remove all the bugs (Mustang Club of America shows are BIG on cleanliness, and this is a BIG deal, bugs in the grill and AC condensor). Anyhow, I removed them by twisting, cleaned, and reinstalled, after a touch up of Back to Black. When I drove home (an 8.5 hour drive) they were still in the lower bumper, good as new. Trust me, you won't loose them. if you want, use some 2 sided tape if you want.

Oh, and Marcello IS the manufacturer and he sells them too, plus he is one hell of a nice guy!! Definitely one of the best in customer service for parts for our cars!! Buy it directly from him and you'll get it in a few days.

Thanks everyone

Jeff I saw your car in one of the magazines last month! Way cool!

On retaining the GT pieces over the long haul, another option is to put a single black zip tie around the center post - if done at the "top" of the post, it is difficult to notice from normal viewing position, and it will positively retain the pieces even if they were to be knocked out by debris.

Hope that helps

Jeff's car in a Magazine? Which one? Waay cool !

Btw, the SHR grille inserts are a breeze to pop in. It takes longer to crouch down in front of the car than it does to put them in. Mine have been in since January and I've had no issues at all. It's a factory look you don't really notice (which is what I like).

No problems with mine either. They are so easy to put in and take out, it does seem like they could fall out or get knocked out easily, but in real life they stay put just fine. SHR has reported that a couple of people have had one fall out (very rare occurrence), and they sent them a replacement free of charge.

get them from SHR, you wont be disappointed...silverhorseracing on ebay has a ton of 100% positive feedback, look around the threads in here for louvers/honeycomb panels/grille inserts, I dont think Ive EVER heard anything buy praise for Marcello and the folks at SHR- great to deal with and their stuff always fits like a glove, and quality is great.
I did manage to knock out one of my inserts, but only when I got really stupid in the rain one day and destroyed my bumper and lower valence panel on a 'unplanned off road excursion'...btw - the insert survived just fine. I seriously doubt they would ever fall out without 'bigger things to worry about fixing' as I mangled my lower bumper pretty bad and only the side that ripped fell out as there was nothing to hold it in

Hey Marcello, I guess you subscribe to Mustang Monthly?

Walt, my car was in the July issue of MM in the Readers Rides section in the back (picture was my car on the Willow Grove NAS flight deck with the fleet of A10s in the backround), and its also in the current issue of Mustang Monthly, their Carlisle 2008 write-up. The main picture, you can see my car clear as day, and the picture is centered around it (my trunk is open and you can see my "06VistaBlueGT" trunk mat!

Yeah, louvers were highlighted in that issue, so I got a copy and flipped through and there you were!
