Not lovin' my headlights. What are my options?

All;
My '05 headlights have that ugly heat shield that's turned black and is starting to deform. I'd love a nice HID kit but the Saleen has issues and all of them are $$$.
So what's an affordable solution that doesn't have that nasty shield? Your input is appreciated.

I have yet to see any issues with the Saleen HID's on PSH....we installed them LONG ago and they have never even had a quirk.
Granted they are not cheap though....

I'm assuming that the sheild is a part of the headlight and can't be remoed without replacing the entire housing. I'd like a reasonable, cost-effective solution. But if I have to, I'll get the Steeda hid kit.
From the affordability standpoint, all I've seen, is cheesy "euro-rice" projector style, takeoffs, oem or oem knock-offs. Worst case, I'll go with late model takeoffs and Silverstars.

Yeah, no kidding!!!! Those chessy chrome headlights are ridiculous looking!!!! If I don't break down and buy either the Saleens or the Steeda ones I will just put in a Xenon kit on both the headlights and center lights from Stangmods but I would rather buy the whole headlight...
The shield should have been black all along but I haven't heard of them deforming. You can get some 07-09 buckets that don't have the shield. I have the VVME HID kit in mine and I have not gotten flashed yet but since I have an 06 I have the shields. If you run an aftermarket kit without a shield you will have more glare.
The VVME kit runs about $100.00 shipped. I bought a used kit which didn't come with the H13 plug. I've heard the newer version has the correct plug though. http://www.vvme.com/product/detail-20022.html
You could always buy a set of projectors but you would have to cut out your headlight and retrofit the projector otherwise you would have to fork over some serious dough for the higher-end kits.

I have the Halo lamps, I'm getting the inside painted flat black and orange ala CDC prototype (I'm doing a glossy/flat back/orange theme in my black GT/CS).
As an owner of burned Saleen HID headlights, I would cast my vote with the Steeda kit.
Don't bother with the ricer headlights, or the ones that have been sawed apart, painted, baked in ovens, etc... (It's been tried before and NONE of the lights I have seen on this board looked good or were worth the effort IMO...)
Steeda HID will give you a lot more light and they look good... as well as not having to d**k around with mounting the ballast somewhere on the frame or in the headlight buckets (I have FOUR ballasts hanging around underhood).

Heat Gun = does the trick, then get them painted, then seal them back up.
Hint - Buy another set of OEM lights and take your time with them.
Mine was an 8 x week project from start to finish.
(ever change a headlight assy?) wife about had a fit when she saw the front half of the car laying all over the driveway.
