Should I Add LeMans Stripes

I thought I would do LeMans stripes. I had a 66 Shelby Clone that had them. I was seeing so many, that I decided on something different. I do however like seeing the LeMans stripes, wonder if I did the right thing every time I do.

Well now it's getting interesting...on this board it pretty unanimous to NOT add the stripes. On the Team Shelby board its a 50/50 split. Can someone photoshop a nice set of white stripes (the stripes would have to match the rocker panel stripes) onto the pics? Thanks.

Slight differences between our cars but take a look at the stripes on mine (more pics in my blog). It might give you an idea on how it would look. Personally I think that there is too much going on with both lemans stripes and rocker stripes so I removed the rocker stripes. Since you have the black chin spoiler, your stripes would stop on the front fascia similar to the Roush. I just installed hood pins yesterday but don't have any pics yet.

Just noticed this. So to answer..I can't really say whether there was any ghosting because the body shop removed the stripes and re-painted 3/4 of my car. I'll tell you I'm really agonizing over this cause I kinda like my car clean now and everyone I know (including my wife), keeps telling me to stripe it again.

That really depends on how well you maintain the paint on your car. The only time you will noticeably (sp?) see ghosting is when the paint is oxidized or full of fine scratches. Since the paint under the vinyl has been protected it would be in better condition than the rest of the car. Typically once the stripes are removed, you just remove any left over adhesive and then polish the entire panel. You'd never know stripes were installed. However, one other thing to note.......if the stripes were installed and any necessary triming had to be done, this is done with an xacto blade. There are some people in the business that can do this without marking up the paint badly, but I'd say 99% of the people that do this cut into the clear (working in a sign shop, I know). So when you remove the stripes you may have some nasty cut marks that you just can't get rid of.
