I want to honor the Mustang's classic past by personalizing my new GT in a retro style. (No I haven't ordered it yet. I can only rule out three colors.) I absolutely love the shaker hood scoop. Trouble is, I also love the LeMans style Shelby stripes. Will they look silly together? When I think shaker, I imagine a '69-'70 with blacked-out hood, whereas the small '65-'66 Shelby hood scoop would look good with the stripes. But how about mixing the two? I'm thinking Sonic Blue with white stripes or Mineral Grey with silver. (Or Screaming Yellow or Mineral Grey with the black-out.) Or....I can't wait for SEMA. As if I didn't have enough choices to make! If I could just get two or three new Mustangs....Any opinions are most welcome!

A Shaker hood on an 05? Will that be a factory option, or are you talking about doing something custom yourself?

I am interested because I own a 70 Mach 1 with a shaker hood. I want to buy an 05 and make a modern version of my 70.

No....he's talking about the CDC shaker kit. It'll look good on the 05, but I don't know about the stripes with the shaker Just wait another 15 days for SEMA and you'll get more choices.

No, the Shaker scoop will not be factory option for the '05, but it is currently available for the previous Mustang, so should just be a matter of time before the aftermarket has it designed for the '05 (like maybe November 2?) You get my meaning, though. A modern version of a classic. The shaker never came on cars with LeMans stripes, but I like both styles. I guess I need to pick one or the other (stripes or shaker). Maybe SEMA will provide an alternative or something completely different.
As far as your '70 goes, you could even modify the headlights on your '05 to resemble the double openings of the '70. Add some louvers, black out the tail panel, hood, spoiler, Boss or Mach stripes..... OMG that sounds nice!

How do you do a shaker with the new engine? If I remember correctly the hood has a hole in it and the scoop comes through the hole from the it mounted on the engine. How do you do that with the current side air box?

Exactly, I have it all planned out just as you described. Can you imagine how cool a "retroed" out 05 will look sitting next to my Mach 1?

My Ford dealer better get some cars in soon, or I'm gonna bust!

That look was only available on the GTR. There are probably no aftermarket companies making the double headlight openings yet.

Upstate,
I won't know exactly how I will do the conversion to a shaker hood until I get my hands on an actual car. But, if a man built it, a man can modify it!

Brad said in another post that a shaker was in the works for the '05 (aftermarket). I agree that it can't quite work the way the original did, with the air going straight down into the intake, but they worked it out somehow for the '04, so I'm sure someone will adapt one for the '05. As for the '70 lookalike, I would imagine that the GTR style front clip would be produced by someone, eventually. Or, would it be possible to paint the inside of the clear headlight covers around the edges and horizontally across the middle, leaving two rectangular openings for the stock headlights to show through? If it was done well, it might give the same effect. Wouldn't the lights be nearly as functional? You'd still have the fogs in the grille? As for my original question, do y'all think that a shaker demands a blacked-out hood?

I think if you put a shaker on the car, and black out the hood with a similar template as a 69-70, you would have a smokin' look.

If you are undecided, then photoshop a picture both ways and see which one you like better. If you are still undecided, then wait till you get your 05, and apply colored car wax to the hood in both a matte black design and a le mans stripe design. See which looks best on the car to you (remember, you are only pleasing yourself). The wax just rubs off and you can try several different designs until you find which one you like. I have used this method to test graphics, flames and stripes on several cars to determine which "look" I liked the best.

I personally think the shaker hood w/ LeMans stripes would look great but it would have to be the right color combintation..I would like mineral grey w/black stripes, or the reverse....Or that titanium color for 06 w/ black or the reverse...But I do agree w/ SuperCJ about blacking out the hood that would look smokin

backafter20....why would you want to paint the inside of the headlight covers? It'll just look cheezy.

03muzzy6, It was just a thought. I was trying to come up with ideas that would make an '05 look more like a '70. '70s had the headlights in the grille and two horizontal vent thingys outboard. I thought that, barring a new aftermarket front clip, maybe you could body color paint the clear headlight covers, leaving the vent thingy shapes clear, and hopefully not block the lights' usefulness You are probably right that it would look cheesy, and I probably wouldn't actually do it, but I was having a nearly live conversation with SuperCJ and the thought just came to me. If you have enough strange ideas, eventually you will hit upon a good one. I'll keep trying....
