It's actually 6 holes, not 4. And I hope you used all 6 mounting points... just 4 won't cut it when you take it up to 80 and above. But, if you ever took the scoop off and had to bondo the holes, you are going to have to have the hood repainted anyway. It's only gonna cost you a few more bucks to have them weld a plate in the hood to cover that hole. SOme shops would do it for practically nothing since they'd be making the money off painting the hood. For instance, I had my spoiler taken off and my shop didn't charge me to weld the holes... they just charged me to paint the decklid.
The thing is, if I ever decide I don't want this scoop, instead of paying $350 to get the hood bondoed and painted, I'd spend a couple hundred more and get a different hood all together.
Exactly. Every mod helps. At least for most of us. For those of you who are all show and no go, don't bother cutting the hole in the hood.

Of course, the extra securing brackets cant hurt.

and yer point about buying a new hood instead of fixing the holes in the current one is well taken.

Actually it is 7 and I used all 7....3 for the front screen and 4 for the scoop.

I think you definitely need the front three too if you want the hood scoop to not lift up about a quarter inch at the front when you drive above 45-50 mph. Once you cut the hole in the hood though (for those that do) you can just bend the new honeycomb mesh grill 90 degrees to hook onto the inside of the hood. That will hold the scoop on from the front, since you can't use the the 3 bolts in the existing plastic solid grill.Scott, did you do anything with the sealant around the edge of the scoop? If you do, let me know how that goes. I'd like to do that as well.
Ian,
You might want to ease up on the "All show and no go" guys! What kind of HP gains did you get from:
1" Spacers On Rear Wheels; Pony Center Caps, Fender Badges & Faux Gas Cap; 18" Antenna; FRPP Hood Pins; 40% Window Tint; Black Vinyl 'GT350' Rocker Stripes; Black Painted Shelby Stripes & Brake Calipers; SSE Ducktail; Redlinegoods Leather Shifter & E-Brake Boots; BEL Vector 975 Radar Detector (hardwired)
Just yankin your chain! I think Scott is going for a look and not all of that will involve going faster in the quarter mile. Your car looks great BTW.

Very funny Drew.
But I'm 50/50 show and go. Half of my mods are performance, and pretty much all of my future mods are as well. I just like to get the most out of my mods. Scott had actually sent me a PM, before he even started this thread, telling me he wanted to make the scoop functional and was asking me about how I did mine. So, trust me... he cares about getting some extra horses if he can.

Sorry Ian, couldn't help it.
Easy to see you have done a great job in both areas. My experience has been that virtually all of us make some cosmetic change or other to personalize the car. The more performance oriented guys of course can't resist going for the power gains. The Mustang is the perfect platform for both. I'm just jealous because I don't have the cash to do either!
Me, I have a money pit 66 GT Fastback in the garage that is like having an extra kid! Cha-ching.

You got me there. I stand corrected, it is 7.

Scott, that looks great. Have you taken the car up really fast after putting the bead of sealant on there, and if so... how is it holding up? I think the sealant looks great... really makes it look seamless. How strong is it though? Did you try lifting the scoop up at the front and is it budging at all?
One last thing... where can I get the sealant? At an auto parts store?
Edit: Keep in mind, I made a honeycomb mesh grille for mine, and so the plastic grille that came with it is not there anymore (neither are the 3 bolts that were in it). So, my scoop wants to lift up like an 1/8" to 1/4" when I'm on the highway. Do you think the sealant is strong enough to keep it down in the front?

Thanks. It will hold just fine. I have had it up to 80 with the first coat and waited 24 hours and put another top layer on today so I cannot drive it for another 24 but since I have a beater car I will wait more like 48 to set real good. I pulled up on the front of the scoop enough to see the hood move and it held great. This is very strong stuff similiar to aircraft sealants I use at work and is waterproof and windproof. I bought the RTC sealant at Autozone for $4. Scott.

I would probably use some 3M tape under the front legs plus the sealant since you did not install the 3 front bolts. Scott.

If you do the sealant PM me and I will give you some tips to make it easy and look..
Seems like you are going for a look that is part 69 and part 70 as far as your hood stripe. What I mean is, your stripe, like the 69, has a black area with the black pin stripe border, but the 69 covers the whole hood.
While the 70 has the same area covered as yours, but extends all the way to the front edge.
Actually I think yours looks more like the 03-04 Mach style hood stripe.

Never wanted to make it look exactly like the old just an inpired personal touch look.
Scott, thanks for the tips. I may do the sealant... and if I do, I'll PM you.
I like the 69/70 look. My car has cues from '65 to '69 Shelby Mustangs. I think it's better to take bits and pieces from different years, rather than be limited to just one year. There are no rules to making this car resemble a SE of old. Just do whatever you feel will look good while keeping to a certain theme.

IMO sucessfully combining themes from different years is what CDC did. The CDC shaker based on the 69-70 mustang Shaker and LeMans stripes from the 65-66 Shelbys. http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=455290
Now if I can just get some one to make a grill like this. (I photoshopped the fog lights out to the outer edges of the grill).
Sorry stangscuda98a, not trying to hijack your thread.
Your car looks great.
I love the Roush hood scoop. In fact, I ordered one from Roush and just received it today (now if only I had a Mustang....). Anyways, the scoop doesn't have much substance, that is, it seems to be made from flimsy plastic. The picture on the Roush website, and the pictures of the scoop after installation make the scoop look fairly sturdy.
Before I start to panic, is this the way it is supposed to be before being painted and installed? I guess once it is bolted on, it won't be going anywhere, but still, the plastic material seems pretty soft.
