Roush hood scoop test fit pictures whatcha think?
This is just my opinion, but I think it would look better if you moved it forward a few inches. It looks too far back to me...but thats just me...

That is my plan. Guy at the shop set it up there to get an idea if I wanted to buy it. Will post completed pics later.

Thanks but to go with the Mach 1 theme I am trying to do it needs a scoop or shaker and the funds for the shaker and the fact it is not out yet is a problem. As far as that is what ricers do..the previous stangs had non functional scoops from factory and they look good IMO. Even the old stangs had non functional body parts.
To each his own....some consider stripes rice....I consider hondas rice not mustangs.

who cares if its functional.. even if it is, the gain is minimal, what are you going to get out of it? 3-5 HP?

good point....I am considering it but it is not final yet.

I like the stripe, is it vinyl? Where can I get one like that. I too am going for the old school look. I only have put on the xenon side window scoops and a steeda street spoiler so far. Bullits on the way.

Yes all my stripes are vinyl..cannot buy them anywhere, had them custom made from my drawings at a auto/vinyl shop. Thanks
Dumb question here, but how would they install it? 3m tape, or with screws or other fasteners coming from up under the hood? Dont think tape will work, so if you use screws or rivets, you still end up drilling through the hood.

Painted and ready for install. What do you think.
Going to cut a hole in the hood to be functional for fresh air. Magnum 500 wheels next year with tax $$$$. maybe

I love all you guys who are saying don't cut a hole in the hood because this or that. There is no reason not to cut a hole in the hood if you are going to mount this hood scoop on your hood. You need to drill holes in the hood anyway to mount it. It's not only held on by 3M tape... it is also held on by bolts. And trust me... you need the bolts. So, if you are going to drill holes in the hood to mount it anyway, it's not like you (or a future owner) could just take the scoop off. The scoop is just going to sit there for the life of the hood with dead air inside of it... doing absolutely nothing.
The way I see it, get the most out of your mod. I have this hood scoop and I cut a hole in my hood. There was a definite "seat of the pants" difference after opening the hood up. Now, I left the hood insulation on, but I cut a small hole in the insulation right over the air filter. I also removed the insulation fastener between the hood scoop and the air filter. So the majority of the air is drawn in between the hood and the insulation... and then brought over to the air filter. This setup is perfectly fine IMO. It makes it semi-functional. In the future, I will rig up some flat aluminum or plastic pipe that will take all of the air directly to a heat box I'll build around the air filter.
On another note... Scott, I think the scoop looks great. And definitely keep the spoiler black. Anyone saying to paint it the body color, or to take it off completely, has no respect for our Mustang elders. I like the look you are going for. Keep up the good work.

That was my point, if you are going to attach it, you have to use screws/bolts so you are already going to have a hole in it, so dont worry either way.
Personnaly, I like the look. It is nice to have some "go fast looking" add ons. Believe the 69 Mach 1 (non shaker) also just had a bolt on scoop, non-functional.
My '67 Plymouth GTX had 2 fake scoops on it, bolted up from underneath. My 65 fastback had the fiberglass shelby style hood, my other stangs have just had stock hoods with no scoops.
Your car looks great!

Scott,
I'm not convinced that just cutting a hole in the hood and having more cold air blowing around the engine will actually get more cold air into the engine. But I'm no engineer so what do I know. Also, remember that the 2V 351 Mach 1s in 1970 had the non functional hood scoops so it has been done. The shaker looks very cool but even CDC admits HP gains are miniscule. The saddest part is the Shaker, doesn't shake! CDC folks told me you would see very little actual movement and that was half the fun of having the thing.
Now you need the 70 style twist locks on the hood (CDC or Fang I think) to complete the project. Bet someone comes out with the rocker trim or a modern version of it. I think your car looks great, keep up the good work!

I'm sure Scott plans to make it a true ram air setup. I mean, just cutting a hole in the hood so air can fly around in there isn't going to do much, no. But directing all of the cool air straight to the air filter (so now fresh cold air is going into the intake rather than the hot air from inside the hood) will definitely get you some gains. It may be 10 HP or even less. But why did I pay over $200 and an entire Sunday installing new pulleys that only got me 8-10 HP? Because every horse counts, that's why. And if I can cut a hole in my hood and redirect the air to the intake for a fraction of the cost of pulleys, but with about the same result, I'd do it in a second.
Love it.
My scoop is bolted on but I havent made it functional yet. My thinking is that there is no rush, but once its done theres no goin back. And as it sits, if I decide to take it off, bondoing 4 screw holes is much easier than fixing a 10 X 6 hole in the hood.
and if ya need a place to store yer old wheels when ya get the new ones, just let me know. You can keep them on my car - cuz Im all about helping my fellow man.

I'm with you on this one Ian - plus about the thing about not worrying about the hole in the hood - You are already drilling into it - it sure ain;t gona be stock if you take the scoop off so... go for it in my opinion....
As for a few extra ponies - after running my car in the 1/4 for the first time and soaking up as much info as I can from my brother who has drag raced for years ('8 Sec Bullitt' here on the Source), I know that every little bit can count and help shave off a tenth of a second here and there. Its not for everyone but for some folks, it is important.

It's actually 6 holes, not 4. And I hope you used all 6 mounting points... just 4 won't cut it when you take it up to 80 and above. But, if you ever took the scoop off and had to bondo the holes, you are going to have to have the hood repainted anyway. It's only gonna cost you a few more bucks to have them weld a plate in the hood to cover that hole. SOme shops would do it for practically nothing since they'd be making the money off painting the hood. For instance, I had my spoiler taken off and my shop didn't charge me to weld the holes... they just charged me to paint the decklid.
The thing is, if I ever decide I don't want this scoop, instead of paying $350 to get the hood bondoed and painted, I'd spend a couple hundred more and get a different hood all together.

Exactly. Every mod helps. At least for most of us. For those of you who are all show and no go, don't bother cutting the hole in the hood.
