removing glass infront of headlights?
After photographing my mustang a few times, I realized that I really don't like the glass that covers the headlights from the fender to the grill. Has anyone removed this glass/plastic, what potential problems would this cause if it were removed (other than slight wind resistance change).

just guessing they are there to keep rocks, ect from breaking your headlights, but I may be wrong.

that was my first thought as well, but then I realized that cars have had "bare headlights" for years, I don't think I have ever seen a rock break a headlight before, at least not on any of my cars.

There isn't an old style round headlight with a glass lens in there.... There's just the reflector and the bulb. The "cover" is part of the lamp housing. With it off, you'll be getting dirt in there, bugs, and the first time it rains and cold water hits the hot bulb..pop...no more bulb
Um, sealed headlights(the old complete bulb type) use the glass lens to shield the projector. The reflective surface just getting dirty on a newer style light reduces its effectiveness much more then just the 'glass' protective clear lens does. They would be ruined in no time, don't even think about it.
oh wow, I didn't realize that was the first line of protection for the bulb, well I'm glad I didn't just have at it! Thanks guys
I agree that it would look better without the glass but without it you would pop the bulb as the glass seal the headlights in. One particular good looking car is CDC's blue one where they removed the glass on it. But after talking with them about it they said they used a fully sealed Jaguar headlight for that car in order to get rid of the glass.

Yup, that would be the way to do it. I don't think they sell them as a kit though. The glass bulb on the XJ is pretty too.

bringing this thread back up from the dead. It's been 1/2 a year now, I wonder if there are any kits to do this to my headlights? I still dream of getting rid of the 'safety goggles' in front of my headlights
Any kits, or any more info on that jaguar headlight lamp? (any clue what make, model, part number, and how they made it fit?)
