the hair dryer softens it up so it is more manageable...

I went for the cleaner look of paint and getting the seam completely smooth. Don't get me wrong, vynil looks great when put on right. However, paint is a real big jump in cost to do it right ... probably easier to mess up than vynil (I have seen Ford dealers here is Houston mess up both)

eh it will cost me a pretty penny huh? i want to go paint because A. i need to lay some new stripes down soon because i am getting new body pieces (spoiler, chinspoiler) and i want bigger stripes with pinstripes. and B. my stripes that dealer put down on the car are already getting tears and little rock chips in it and i am afraid its going to get worse.

Painting will always look better than the vinyl in my opinion....however, what happens (God forbid) get damage to the hood, bumper, etc.,...it seems you have to go back to the paint booth and hopefully they can match the stripes as well. I remember when I had an '88 Cougar with factory painted pinstripes and then I had to get my quarter panel re-painted...well they tried to match the painted pinstripe with 3m vinyl tape. and they couldn't...so they ended up using the vinyl to cover up all the painted pinstripes so that it would all match...
