How much does it cost to get racing stripes painted on? I have a 04 GT with hoodscoop. I live in San Antonio, TX if any one knows of any good body shops around here! Thanks yall!

It depends...

I have been looking for a paint shop to do my car. Here is what I have found out so far....

1) A simply paint on stripe job with no clear coat will set you back about $400-$500

2) A Clear over the stripes will probably run $800-$1000. This is a sanded and buffed clear coat on the stripes only and will leave a noticable edge where the outside of the stripes are taped ( About two sheets of paper thick ). It will look great, but can flake off and chip much easer than a full clear over coat. You also cannot avoid a wax build up on the paint edge.

3) A professional job where the clear coat is repainted over the entire Front clip, hood, top, trunk, spoiler and rear bumper. $2000-$3500. This requires that the front clip, rear bumber and spoiler be removed and the entire surfaces covered with clear, sanded and buffed. This will leave no tape edge on the stripes and a wet look to the clear coat.

The reason for the high price on the third options is that you cannot simply feather the new poly clear coats. Unlike the laquer paints, the poly has no pours for the new paint to stick to. This makes feathering the edges almost impossible because you must sand the clear to get the paint to stick to it. However, the orignal clear is not thick enough to sand so that the paint can be feathered properly...

Anyway, that is what I am hearing from the paint pros....

Rattlergolf, I would suggest Jack's Paint Place. He is located in Converse next to Judson High School. (converse business park). They are professional and do
EXCELLENT work. I have had a few cars repaired at Jacks and the paint quality is always as good as factory or better. His facility is top notch and very clean. You will not find another body shop as organized as Jack's. Good luck. Keep us posted.
