Pulled over for headlights
As far as tinting goes, I'm not a fan of how it looks.
Makes total sense, and I'm really going to look at a driving light conversion.
So how do you like the thread I started on the other forum?
You are incorrect.. while the gt's FOG LIGHTS are poorly placed (should be lower like you posted gt500 example), they are still a fog pattern. A wide beam that is shorter in length forward than the headlights. They are not driving lights which would be a narrow, longer beam than headlights. There used to be conversions for them (piaa or hella ?) but must not have sold well as I am no longer finding them

For now, I went back to halogen. I definitely like the pure white color of HID's better, gives it a much cooler look. But if I can't use my fog lights to supplement the ****ty head lights then I might as well go back to a setup that lets me use my fog lights around town.
So I went with Silver Star Ultra's for the headlights. The store didn't carry them in 9145's (fog lights on my '06) so I put my regular Silver Stars back in (the ones I had before I put in the HID setup 4 years ago). Glad I didn't throw them away.
I took it for a test drive tonight and gotta say, it is D A M N NICE to have true high beams again. The retract the lamp thingy that the "bi-xenon" bulbs use to shift the light up just sucks.
Here are a couple pics:

HI-BEAMS

So yeah, you can really see the difference with the brights switch on. I'm a little surprised that when the low beams are on, the silver stars look just as bright as the xenons. but on HIGH, the halogen is definitely brighter. My road test confirms that they do focus the light better. Overall the look of the headlights now is kind of dull, but they work better. The fog lights...eh I knew they weren't as bright as xenons, but that was kind of the point.
Not really decided where to go from here. Might do a projector retrofit (if I didn't like how it looks I could always sell them). I electric-taped up the ballast connectors for now and zip-tied them out of the way. When I decide what to do, I'll probably rip them out then.

That's because they're not fog lights! They're driving lights. I can't believe how many Mustangers think they're fog lights.
Get it right guys. Fog lights are low - to cut UNDER the fog. Driving lights - like H-beams, are useless in fog because they are aimed too high.
A Mustang's DRIVING LIGHTS should be brighter than H-beams and aimed further out for high speed night driving when there is no traffic. Think LeMans.
The officer was correct in asking you not to have them on towards oncoming traffic. Do you leave your H-beams on also with traffic flashing you?

The factory bulbs in the fog lamps do have a cutoff and don't interfere with opposing traffic. I have been driving with my fogs on during winter conditions and never stopped by law enforcement. I have also encountered S197s approaching me with their fogs on and they are not offensive. In fact all four lamps appear to be the same intensity. Maybe twice a season I will encounter someone who sees 4 equally sized lamps on and incorrectly thinks that I have my brights on, however a quick flash of my brights and they just drive by.
My biggest argument with Ford concerning the factory fogs is their placement. They were going for a retro look rather than for functionality. Yes you want them as low as possible like on the GT500 and the Shelby GT. My personal opinion is that they were placed where they are to get that old time driving lamp look of the specialty Mustangs of the late 60s.

For the fogs, Hoen makes an excellent (and simple) bulb replacement, for size H10, here's their website: http://www.hoen-usa.com/fog.htm
Just my two cents...good luck!
Ps: I use the term 'fogs' because that is EXACTLY what Ford calls them in their sales brochures.
