Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone who has ordered and received their personal plates could tell me how long it took? As my ID indicates I'm in Jersey. I'm guessing every state is different but I mailed the form with my requests in over three weeks ago and still have not heard anything. One of the forms you fill out is a post card they send back to you indicating which of your choices you got. Then I understand it's 10 weeks from that point till you actually receive your plates! :bang: The wait is driving me nuts!

Cathy,
Don't know about NJ but ordered my NY plates on-line and got conformation righ a way they were mine.
The next day I received e-mail stating I should get my winder sticker and other paperwork within two and the plates in about four weeks.

The first set of vanity plates I ordered for my '02 mustang too six months. But I ordered those via mail.

Bill,
It's funny if you call the NJDMV the recording they have on there says that you can order your personal plates online. But when you go to the website it says you have to call and have a form mailed to you. I wish I could have done it online.....at least then I would know which of my choices I ended up with.

I ordered my persanal plates online here in Virginia. They say it takes 4 weeks, usually they arrive via mail quit a bit earlier than that. I would assume every state is different.

I ordered vanity plates here in California online and it stated that I would recieve a notice to pick them up at the DMV in approximately 12 weeks. Funny how they charged my credit card in 2 days.

NH lets you search the current plate database online and reserve one you like. Then you take the printout to the DMV and get it.

I went to the DMV in Epping New Hampshire. Filled out the form with 6 choices, my first choice was available. I paid my 25 bucks and the plates arrived in my mail 10 days later.
George, only $25? Just another example of how NJ's DMV stinks. I had to send in my check for $50.00 with the application.

It has been averaging about 6 weeks.
Exact time when we get back from vacation.

Ron, hey a fellow New Jerseyian (sp?). Did you get that little post card back that we filled out before you actually got your plates? You know the one that you put your name and address on and on the back it's preprinted with a space that they fill in your first available choice??? I'll be happy when just that gets here.

I'm glad Arizona has something on the ball. Standard plates usually arrive in a week, renew registrations a week. Duplicate Drivers Licences a week, I have no reason to believe that personalized plates would be any different. You can go right to the point of ordering them to see if your choice is available. The fee is $25 for personal plates. All of this is done online, has been that way for years now.

The Motor Vehicle Dept. notified me my personal plates were available 12 days after I ordered. But my regular plates (which I had to have to turn in to receive my personal plates), took two months. So it was sixty some days before I could display the personalized plates.

Here in Ohio you could check online to see if a plate was available, but you had to go to the DMV, stand in line and order your plates. At least then, you had a good idea if the plate was available and they also checked at the time of order. It then took about 3 weeks for the plates to come.

I went to an Auto Tag & Registration service that was able to tell me what was available right on the spot, reserved it (they tack on a $15 instant service fee) and recieved the tags in a few days...

Here in Florida it's a one-time add-on fee of $20.00 over your normal registration fee. In my case the dealer title clerk was able to verify my choice and order the plate directly. Total cycle was about 3 weeks.

Sounds great, doesn't it. Only problem was that the State mis-spelled the tag - left out a space! The dealer clerk caught the error and reordered at no cost to me. So now I'm into my second 3 week cycle, still waiting for my vanity plate!

I put my existing personal plates on the new car. It still took over two months to get my registration back. I called the dealer at one point and they confirmed that the DMV (PA) was 60 days behind.

I went to re-register my T-Bird and get personal plates. The part that stinks is you have to:
1) Register your car and buy normal plates ($46)
2) Register again at the same time and buy new personal plates for ($25)

So you pay $71 for personal plates if you do it all at the same time. You can work the system and wait a year. Then instead of renewing the existing plate, order the personal plate.
