Paint Stripe Issues
#61
My car gets taken away from me on December 27th to get stripes painted on it!
I have until then to make a decision on color.
Mineral grey with DS Grey is back in the lead. Followed a DSG Stang to work the other day and compared colors looking down my hood at the back of his car. With the sun shining off of it.
It will not be as dark due to the fact that the undercoat will be my Mineral Grey, but it should still have the effect that I am looking for. A metalic Gun Metal Grey Stripe, Lemans Style.

38 Special,
I have the same headache as you, altough I have som more time to change my mind because I dont expect my mineral grey GT until february. First, I was thinking silver, it looks best on the "stripe painter" IMO. And I prefer to have the stripes in a lighter color/shade than the rest of the car. After reading this post I realise it might not contrast very well with the brownish tone in the mineral grey. If I get mine panted, I think I will choose a mix of silver and a touch of mineral grey in the paint. However I prefer vinyl and will see what I can find...
Can't wait to see your car, please post pics when you're done!

With Red Buckets, you might want torch red stripes.
I parked my car nex to a DS Grey car on Sunday. In cloudy weather it looks charcoal, but on sunny days there is a bluish silver that comes out.
With my interior being Dark Charcoal, I think the DSG will look great. I have a final meeting with my painter soon and we will decide on: 1.) Black, 2.) DSG, or 3.) A darker version of Mineral Grey.
I put a paint swatch of DSG next to my car in varied sun exposures. Looks like MG with black added to it. In shadow, it almost disappears.

Ditch the stripes idea .. I think what looks best on the Mineral gray is a blacked out hood with a cool hood scoop .. The really low hoodscoop at sema (orange car) with two holes looks best, looks really sleek.. Then, to match , I would paint the spolier black and the area between the two tail-lights black .. And maybe, maybe some beautifully designed black rims (although that may be overdoing it)..

My car gets taken away from me tomorrow at 830am to get my stripes painted on her! It is almost too late to convince me now!
The downside is that my car will be gone until Friday. I will be driving the 02 until then.
Always have a good back up.
PS
Go STEELERS!

38special,
They will probably be real close to DSG but I'm going with vinyl so it will basically be the closest thing that matches the rims. I have a friend that runs a vinyl shop so he is cutting me a good deal. Paint is much nicer but I can't spend the extra money on it unless I get rid of one of the other toys first. Oh well can't have everything.

BTW after your new custom paint job you should consider getting the 3M paint protection film installed. There are many companies that sell and install kits, go to http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/_...1/_s.155/98905 and you will be able to find an installer. I have personally had kits installed by Star Shield (www.starshieldarmor.com) and X-Pel (www.xpel.com) and have been very happy with the appearance and results. It's well worth the money to protect your baby!

These pictures do not do the stripes justice. These stripes give a ghost appearance in the right shade. If you look at my avatar you can see that the shadow on the hood is the same color as the stripe.
Weather conditions are low angle sun with blue sky.
