On a sillier note, I was considering skull and crossbone wheel caps.( instead of ponies) They would go well with the dark shadow grey. Maybe a skull and bones on the hood over the stripes. Raider Nation comes to mind there though. (I'm a Steeler fan)

Here is a real bad pic of my car. Can't wait until I get some nice weather around here.

10" with 1" gap?

Overall, here are my thoughts on the stripes:
- If you don't go too wide, you won't have to worry about the tail lights being closer together than the crease of the front hood. 14" would probably be too wide though. If you are still worried about that area, you can black out the section between the tails lights. I would recommend a flat black for that.
- Tapering slightly on the front hood looks good, but doesn't make all that much of a difference IMHO
- Too narrow of stripes looks pretty bad as it exaggerates the heft of the car
- Too wide of a gap in the middle looks terrible (like a kid who has a huge gap in his two front teeth)
And finally, my color choices on Mineral Gray:
1. Redfire (a little different and much more of a statement)
2. Black (subtle, Eleanor-esque)
Be careful with silvers/grays as the yellow undertones of the MG color will probably clash with the blue undertones of silver.

When I look at both colors side by side I think they work well together.
Redfire on MG? OMG Not my cup of tea. I do not think that it would look bad, I'm just looking for something subdued. In fact If I could stripe the car in a darker MG, I would. Sort of like ghost stripes. This way when I'm driving at night I would not be such a ticket magnet.

If you are getting them painted, tell the shop you want a darker MG, and they may be able to mix up a special color for you (just add black).
Might be worth a shot.
And, yeah, the redfire/MG combo is definitely not subtle.

Well, since you're asking for opinions... I think MG is a good color by itself, but as far as stripes go, nothing looks right with it. Black may be ok but imho mg is too brown to contrast well with any other colors. Your best bet would be to have the body shop mix up some mineral gray and add a slight amount of black for some ghost stripes. It's too bad they didnt have dark shadow gray this year, because that would be a much easier color to add stripes to. As for me I decided to go with silver and charcoal stripes.
If I were you I'd do vinyl, remember if you get them painted and don't like them then you will have to get your whole car painted to fix it. Also, when you go to sell the car prospective buyers may not like your stripes. With vinyl, you (or the new owner) can strip them off with little expense. As for the paint fading that is very unlikeley with today's paint technology. If you were to care for the exposed part of the car properly you probably won't see any fading for years.

I used to think that black was the only good color for stripes on a mineral grey car. But I had a vision: "If you paint it...They will come." Parking next to Black Shadow Grey cars gave me the idea. I will not know until I try it. I can always paint black over them if I do not like them. A photo chop of this would be great! Hint Hint

There are an infinite number of options if you do choose to paint, so don't limit yourself to the "Ford" colors. Have something mixed that looks right to you, and you'll never be dissapointed. Don't be fooled by people who say that "custom" paint can never be repaired if you scratch it. Have the shop give you a copy of the formula they used and you'll never have any worries.

You are starting to convince me away from DS Grey. Bronze or Brass might work.
Boy, my mg is hard to stripe, other than black or white.
Maybe a Jolly Rogers on the hood isn't such a bad idea after all.

Just make sure you check out some of the shop's custom work first. Anyone can paint a solid color, but stripes are more difficult and they can really wreck your paint if they mess up. Remember they are basically lining up 4 perfectly straight lines over a surface that is not flat. This isn't as easy as it would initially seem as it requires a lot of precise measurements and very careful taping/sanding. Also try to leave as much of it factory as possible because no matter how good a job you get the aftermarket paint WILL chip and scratch much easier than the factory stuff due to the curing process used at the factory.
