Paint job gone Wrong!!
I will be very surprised if he would be willing to pay for you to get it fixed somewhere else. I'm willing to bet that he's gonna try to get you to agree to let them have another try. I could be wrong though. Try to have a witness w/ you.
Sorry for the delay!!
Amazing how a weekend changed his tune!! He was begging me to let him correct it!! He didn't want me to contact the state, BBB, nor sue him in court!!
He went on to state that he personally didn't perform all the work the last 2 times
. Yet this time, he and only he will work on it till it is 100% correct. The white near the scoop coming up is right at the points of the scoop (according to him, the nephew was suppose to place the hood under a heat lamp to bake it and didn't). He also pointed out that the nephew failed to take care of the drips as well as the issues with sanding out the fisheyes and proper buffing.
When he offered to pay my gas to take the hood to him once more, I knew he was serious about getting it taken care of. Bottom line is, the plenum cover was left with him (to correct to my specs), and the hood will be dropped off on Monday. If it's not 100% correct this time, he is fully aware that he won't get it back and I will pursue a payment from him to get it corrected.
I won't be able to sleep until the end of next week!!
I reaonsed my decesion on the fact that it was going to cost me $70 for a court date, $125 to get the plenum cover to match the car (merely Vista Blue base with white stripes, not the preferred white flames). So nearly $200 and no gaurantees of anything else! Therefore, worst case scenario by allowing him one last chance, I have delayed the $200 outlay and provided a much better position in front of a judge if needed!
As for the fenders, I don't want him nor anyone touching them!!
I certainly hope this is the end of this saga!!
I will post up in this thread as it progresses next week!

As annoying as it may seem, I think you made the right call.
While he didn't deserve another chance, this method is easier for you and does show a willingness to work things out before escalating to the court system.

I hope it works out well for you. I don't think I would have trusted him with my car after making threats. If you have to cross that line, then you don't want them doing the work period. Before pursing the small claims if you go that route, give him the option of a complete refund. Your detailed notes and written documents will be the difference whether or not you will be able to collect costs for someone else to redo the work. GL
I agree, however,
1. He's not getting the car, I'm taking just the hood! (while I was their on Monday I covered up the VIN on the dash just in case he tried to get my VIN #). The only info he has documented on me at this point is my name and cell # nothing more!!
2. Full refund of what I have payed won't be enough to cover the cost of getting someone else to do the work. Originally, he only needed to paint white for the stripe then clear coat it. The last go around and this one (and someone else if it doesn't turn it) will require the vista Blue and white for the stripe. Hence costing 2 - 3 times original cost.
If I were to ask for and get a full refund, I think my chances to collect more (once I get to a judge) will be nothing. This is why I'm insisting he pay another shop to get it right if he can't!!
My feeling is that he will get it right this time, yet if he doesn't, I will have to pursue the court system as I doubt he would pay on his own!!

Don't expect 100% perfection. It won't happen cause there's no such thing. It should be presentable though. That guy should have never let it out the door in the first place. Good luck with it, I hope it works out. I've used 3 different paint guys on my '05 and they all pissed me off. They all had to repaint different things for me. What a bunch of idiots. I build custom solid body guitars and do my own paint work on them, but my booth is only 4ftX4ft. Any work I do in the future for the car will be done by me in the garage then wet sanded and buffed.
Make sure he is taking the time to strip down all the paint he has laid on your pieces. If not you will end up with cracks and possible peeling in no time. Sounds like you already hve too much paint build up as it is!
As for perfection, if that is what you are paying for, settle for nothing less! A painter who takes pride in his work will present you with nothing short of perfection, anything less is waisting his time and yours.
