There was another thread or two on this subject a while back and I don't remember anyone with the OEM spoiler having the corner issue. I was very close to pulling the trigger on the purchase of a painted clone spoiler until I read those threads. Preparation of the surface is the most important part.
After cleaning the old adhesive residue off the trunk with Goo Gone, I washed the area using Dawn dish detergent. After drying the area I went over the area with a clean cloth with 91% rubbing alcohol (most bottles in stores are 70%) at least 4 or 5 times....the surface was squeaky clean...literally. I didn't use any adhesion promoter though. When I attached the new spoiler I just tightened the fasteners snug and not really "crank down" on them.

White tape?

Could that manufacturer possibly have used a lesser quality bonding tape? All the 3M tape I've seen is black.

I tend to agree. The only stuff I've ever seen was the black 3M with the red adhesive cover...

Well I'll let you know....I'm having mine redone and we're going to use the 3M PT1100 tape...the black tape with a red liner....I know that stuff holds tight...

This is a partially related question. Has anyone seen a lower profile version of this spoiler? I like that it covers the factory holes and that it's a one-piece only seated on the trunklid but it's still too big for me.

That's what my 3DCarbon GT500 spoiler had on it and it still lifted on both ends (black tape with the red liner). I'm very certian the install was done correctly, which I did. I followed the directions to a tee and even looked online to what other people were doing. I made sure there was no wax or sealent on the trunk as well. I used the promoter and made sure the tape made good contact with it.

I have the Roush now and it fits like a glove and the tape is holding tight on the corners. It just seemed with the GT500 spoiler, it didn't want to fit snug against the trunk on the corners, no matter how much I pushed down on it. It might have been just mine though, or the install.

I have the Ford OEM GT500 rear spoiler and it is lifting about 1/2" on the driver side and about 1/4" on the passenger side. I cleanded, de-waxed, and used the alcohol and promoter pads that come with the CDC chin spoiler to prep the surface. It held tight for a few months but has been lifting more and more over the past 10 months. My plan now is to take it in to a dealer and have them remove it, retape it, and reinstall it.

Are you thinking about the V6 Pony wing?

No, I'm just describing one I'd like not one I've actually seen. The V6 spoiler is actually alright but not exactly what I want.

Yeah....I heard that too from another guy who has the OEM spoiler....I'm going to do some pre-install fitment with mine to see if I can actually get the corners right before the tape is removed. I'm thinking of maybe going without any tape between the two mounting studs so that part of the spoiler is tighter to the deck lid....Maybe the corners will be tight to the lid then with out the center tape holding them off....If the pre-fitment doesn't work, I may move on to a different spoiler....

My 3DCarbon GT500 spoiler lifted on both ends, even after re-installing a 2nd time. Then 3DCarbon sent me their newer version with the extra bolt on the ends. I wasn't thrilled about drilling the extra two holes, but it's been fitting like a glove for at least a year now.

Im sorry but for the fact that I have heard of people who have OEM and it still lifts, then i dont see why not just pay 180 from ebay for painted one.

The ford one is wayyyyyy over priced and a rip off, since it lifts on the corners too.

It is entirely possible that some have had Problems with the Oe Spoiler But it could also be a Generic Spoiler Sold as Oe or it could Be Install Issues too. I did Sell some Early 3d Units and Had Issues with them. In Fact My GT/Cs Had the Issue. I came up with a Modified Install Procedure for 3d but they went the Extra Bolt Route. My Procedure Seems to be working and did not Require any Extra Bolts. I wish I would Have Taken Some Pics cause it is Hard to Explain without Illustrations. I was Merely Stating That I had Personally Sold a ton of these OE Gt-500 Spoilers with No Complaints. As far as Pricing I believe Mine are pretty competitive and Ford Lowered the Price on these a Couple of times. They were Pretty Spendy when first released. Be aware that a Spoiler May Appear Identical and Fit well upon Initial Install but down the Road Could Warp or Crack. OE Parts are designed to Last the Life of the Car. So beware of So Called Bargains. OE Spec is Usually a More Durable Lasting Part.

I'll take my chances with 180 shipped, if something happens to fail, i will get OE. After seeing some of my parts on my mustang that are OE break, crack and fall off, I want to give aftermarket a chance...

There are Plenty of Good Aftermarket parts out there. But there are Also some Below Par Parts Simply made to Make Money with no warranty or recourse. Just need to do a bit of Research before you buy! I do not Sell any Aftermarket Parts that are of poor quality. When an Issue Happens it is what the Supplier or Manufacturer Does to Address the Issue that makes a difference. 3d carbon, Street Scenes, Carroll Shelby Wheels and Roush which I handle do a good Job of Handling Concerns from My Own Personal Experience. Nothing is Perfect Not even OE. It's the Service after the sale that makes the difference.

Yeah I second that Brutha.

I too wish there was something in between the V6 and the GT500 spoiler...that would be perfect.

I deleted my spoiler last spring with the plastic plug route and it's OK but not permanent. In fact I think you said those exact words and I fully agree.

I just can't decide between filling/painting or a good spoiler. The stock spoiler is NOT an option!
