Not for the Faint of Heart
Soooooooooo, got the real bright idea to paint my headlight buckets.
What a disaster of a project. Do not attempt this if your squeemish, when you prod the beach rubble.
It gets kinda messy. Unless of course you just unbolt and take them to a PROFESSIONAL. Not me.............Hey gotta play ya know.
So after destroying the first one, the second came a part a lot eaiser. More Heat! A LOT MORE HEAT!!
Thanks to Industrial strengh Clear Sealer E-6000, they set up pretty well.
Soooooo, now no more excessive black up front.
What-da-ya think?? .... different
was it worth the near heart failure.

I like it. Of course my car is black so it wouldnt make a whole lot of difference. but if I had a different color this is something i would want done. Not sure if i would attempt it myself as you did. but kudos for giving it a whirl and doing what looks to be a good job.
Looks awesome. In a former life I had a WRX wagon. The WRXs were afflicted with a small bulb shield that used to come loose and rattle around in the housing. Believe it or not we used to stick the headlights in the oven at about 250-300 degrees for about 10 minutes to soften the glue. It worked great. It was a bit nerve racking however wondering if your headlights we going to be a puddle when you went to pull them out.
i know that when i had my 350z, those guys were doing the same thing to get those reflectors out. just stuck the headlights in the oven. i never tried it, but they made it sound really easy.
btw, looks really nice. i like it a lot. like a couple of the others on this thread, my car is alloy so i doubt i would really notice much of a difference. nice job!!

Thx guys. I'm actually a tad proud of the 'finally' finished product.
The Facia was a piece of cake; Philips for the wheel well screws, 10mm for the inside fender/facia supports (right in front of the whell well splash, and again for the three bolts for the headlite unit itself. a 7/32 for the 4 under the facia, and it slides forward, WITHOUT having to take it off. Gives you plenty of room to work around, to actually unbolt the headlight units.
It was the heat gun, then ultimately the oven treatment, along with my hacking attempt at disassembly, that was stressful. (By the bye) I alrready had made the phonecall to my neighbor Ford Dealer for a replacement unit for the one I was destroying. Ultimately, didn't need it after all though. My wife got a tad upset though. I have this project car in the other bay i'm suppose to be working on see, then she comes out and see's the 07 in pieces. Was interesting.............

That's my life too! I have a bunch of project cars that I'm fixing up and selling. So far I have a load of cars (12) and a garage FULL of parts. She couldn't believe it when she realized that new pile of parts was for the Mustang that hasn't even been built yet! Needless to say I've stepped up the pace on the cars I'm working on flipping.
Awesome job Dave. I tried this two years ago. I had the forethought of buying 2 take off lights from steeda in case I wanted to go back to stock.
I pulled the lights and put them in the oven for a while but they would not open; so I pout them in longer, still no dice. Raised the temperature, the cover would not budge. Put them in another 5 minutes and when I open the oven door, the buckets were melted. ARGH!!! $190 down the drain.
I'm glad yours worked OK. Maybe it will give me the courage to do it again. I really like the way it looks.

Well that's how I am. Really don't like paying for something "I think" I can do myself. Initally anyway.
Thx for all the comments. Now to contact MWAG for those cover's!!
Here's, I think, a better shot of the finished product:
