Need help deciding on a rocker panel stripe!
Hmmm, let's see anyone want to take a guess what I voted for ?

Attachment 19603
The only thing I don't like about mine, is the GT fender emblem now that I have the rocker panel stripes, but you have the V6 (
) Running Ponies so no redundancy there.
(I plan to eventually change the fender emblem when I find one I like)
Do what you like best Leo, it's your car. I have only had one person even say anything about the GT300, and his comment was, "What is the GT300 a special edition."?
I just told me "No, it's a 300HP stock Mustang GT with several modifications." and his reply, "Oh, that's cool, awesome car".
So don't worry about it Leo, it's a MUSTANG not many people will NOT think it's cool.

Here's my 1.7 cents worth (inflation is rough!).
S197 - For anybody who doesn't know Mustangs you are gonna get the "What's that mean?" routine. To me it would be like owning an 88 GT and having “FOX GT†or FOX BODY GT†on the stripe.
S197 GT – See above.
GT 300 - I don’t mind this so much but there is this guy around town who has one with this written on it. I don’t know how many times I have had somebody come up to me say “Yeah, I saw a GT 300†yesterday!’
Like they saw a rare performance car or something.
GT 350 - With the look you have gone for with your car, I don’t think that this is appropriate. GT 350’s didn’t come with shakers. Besides that, you’d have to put up with the purist whiners who will stick their lower lip out and say “That’s no Shelby!!!â€
Sorry, as long as someone doesn’t try to pass a clone off as the real thing I could care less what they put on the side of their car. Let’s face it, not everyone has $60,000 plus to own the real thing.
Mach 1 – Why not? The original was pretty much a sticker job anyway and you have a car that has more HP than anything produced past 1971 until the 03/04 Machs. So go ahead, but again, watch out for the purists.
Bottom Line… Do what makes you happy!

Mike, I'm new to the area. I've seen/heard "Mock 1" before. In fact I mentioned back on 27 Aug 2005 when I lived in TX

Have you had enough of the tourists, crappy traffic situation, tunnel and bridge galore, and the rest of what makes Hampton roads so great (note sarcasm). If you stay here for awhile, you may see that Mr. Joynes will have 3 new law partners (he has already had quite a few; that's one of the jokes of the town in which you know you're a local when you can name all of his previous law partners). And let's not forget about that great Mid-Atlantic weather. Just a couple of weeks ago, we had almost record highs. That was followed two days later with ice/snow [at least here in central NC]
Must be a change from Texas.
Hey Leo, I voted on a blank stripe. I have the GT Racing "Heritage" Stripe with no letters or numbers on it, from Graphic Express! Just the 3 stripes (thin, thick, thin). Didn't want to have any numbers, since it isn't a GT350, or a GT500. Wanted to do something different, as most people who have the stripes have numbers on it. There are so many to choose from, you'll have fun looking.
I love Hampton Roads. For me, the pluses far outweigh the negatives. San Antonio is just too hot from May-Oct. Nice winters though.
Leo, if you like the MACH1 theme how about this one? Mustang written in the MACH1 style script.

This past summer, we had almost a full straight week of >105 heat indices. One night, at 9:30 at night, it was still over 90 with the heat index.
This summer was pretty bad, and we normally don't have that much heat for a sustained period of time. It's usually only for a couple of days.
Now, I don't know how that compares with TX, but I thought they have more of a dry heat, whereas we have humidity
Sorry you don't like it here, but I grew up in Wilmington, NC, and it's typically hotter there than it is here. San Antonio was way too hot for me. It gets quite humid there too. I've lived in Norfolk from Jul-Sep in 2003. No complaints.
Leo,
Or if you prefer, the 71 style script in GT 281. Not a side stripe but it would be on the side of the car.

I voted for Custom - maybe like mine shown below. It's actually a variant on the Mach I stripe. Either is available from this guy:

I like my GT300. It's a GT, and it has 300hp. I'm saving for a Superformance Cobra, so I won't be adding too many hp to my daily-driver Mustang, so the 300 will do fine. Any quality vinyl sign shop should be able to custom make you a set of stripes that say anything you want.
Rocker Panel Stripes
This is certainly a hot topic. I've got a black 05 GT and I've already had three different sets of lower rocker panel stripes on it.
I started with wide traditional slim wide slim with the center door stripe with the words M U S T A N G cut out so the black paint would show through with three running mustangs behind it. Have an extra set of those.
Got tired of that and went to just a plain slim wide slim stripe with nothing on it.
Then got really brave and put SHELBY GT perfectly cut on the front fenders, but have decided this won't work either. It's not a Shelby!
This weekend I'm going back to slim wide slim traditional silver all the across the bottom. Later I'm going to have the doors done with letters cut so the paint shows through with M U S T A N G GT.
They all look great and you should do what you like. I have a COBRA LOGO over my rear GT Emblem. I'm going to remove it when I remove the rocker front fender stripes this weekend.
Some running ponies would also look good. There's no perfect answer, we just all want to have our mustang stand out as special.
Just my thoughts............

I'll throw in my opinion since I have been thinking about rocker panel stripes since I got my le mans stripes done.
1. If you go with GT 300 (GT XXX) style stripe then I suggest removing the factory GT emblem and replace with tri-bar and pony (see GRAYPNY's ride)
2. I also like the solid stripes with no text on it and keep the factory GT emblem.
3. Again, use the solid stripe and relocate the GT emblem to the rocker panel stripe as suggested in previous post in this thread. This would require you to clean up the area the original GT emblem was at.
So, I am partial to #2 myself and this point and would rank overall as.. #2, #1 and #3. I don't agree that people will know what S197 stands for so I would suggest staying away from that.

I agree its best to do what you like since its something you will live with. After looking at your car a little I'd almost say you would be better off with no stripe black does have that nice sleek look. Me I need a little black on the sides to go with my front, rear blackout and break up my blue a little bit
You guys are right about people not knowing what S197 means...... that is why I did decided to go with it. If you think about it, most people "think" they know what GT300 or GT350, etc. means, and that's why most of them will think that's what your car is, however in reality it's not.
Again I am definetely not trying to tell anyone what to do or not to do with their car- by all means do whatever the hell you want to do, its your car- you should enjoy it and make it your own..... I'm just offering a different view on it. I guess I would rather people not know for sure what the description means rather than have them think that it's something that it's not.

Well I'd like everyone for all the great suggestions. With that said I'm sorry to say I won't be getting any stripes. The poll results show exactly what's going on in my head. I know myself and I'll end up like the guy a few posts up constantly changing them. Thanks to everyone who helped out. I hope this thread will be of help to other people considering rocker panel stripes.
