Mud Flaps on a GT? Controversial or Not?
Thanks for the post, I've been thinking about them since our last test drive that was in the snow, ice & slush with parking lot testing. Long story short the car was a mess, I wonder how much the flaps would help?

I was thinking about mud flaps too till I did some web surfing and found the untilmate paint protectiuon. Clear 3M paint protection film sold by numourus sites on the web. Heres one site X-Pel http://www.xpel.com/products/paint.asp
The stuff goes on clear, stays clear, you can wash and wax it and it protects the paint from rocks and bugs and it has UV protection also. Cant beat that with mud fplas or nose bras. Im going to get it for the bumper and front end and get some for the areas behind each wheel also. You cant even see the stuff unless you get real close to it. Ill put some pics up when I get it done.

Heath, if it is gonna be done thats how to do it, low-key, black, understated...looks good. I've considered mud flaps, wasn't sure how they would look, may give it a try now, thanks!

Heath - they look great, and you're exactly right about paint damage over time. I don't think I could bear it (or the price of the clear sheeting right now, I'm Mustang broke!!). And your front ones....I'm off to the store for something just like 'em. Nice and subtle, they go pretty good with that little lip that Ford provides. Thanks for the pics

Tried to take photos of ours but it doesn't show well .... duuuuuh, it's clear and if done properly you can't see anything except the reveal line. And once you're 3 feet away it disappears unless the light hits it right. Here's another site with a lot of photos: http://www.autoclearguard.com./gallery.html
If fronts are available I say you should get them. I already have stone chips on the c pillar, just behind each door. The front tires contantly throw stones up against the side of the car. Time for a ground effects kit to help prevent further stone chips.....
I have been interested in the X-pel as well. If it is really hard to see from a "normal" distance than it is worth it to me. Being in the military everytime I move I never know where the new "home" is going to be or what the road conditions are going to be like. Would much rather protect the paint, even if it costs a fair amount, than to go without.
I don't think the mudflaps are bad, they are just not for me. I will have to wait and see how much the ground effects protect the side of the car, but I definitely want something on the front.
Thanks for posting any opinions on the X-pel.

Great info
With the risk of giving away my age, I lived in the days of 68 Camaro's, 69 Mach 1's and 69 Chevelles. My '66 Mustang was only 9 years old when I got it. Mud flaps were a standard customization in those days. Chrome, black, whatever. We put them on because we thought they looked good. I still think they look good - and I like them on your cars.
I believe they are a must if you enjoy breaking traction now and again. The tiny particles of tar and stones that get thrown from the tire treads will chip and mar your paint. First mod I did and the black looks great on the silver.

As it has been said, they are easily installed; therefore, they must be easily removable for those times when you don't need/want them - car shows, etc. At least the paint will be protected, and will look nicer when you do show your car, or just want it to look stock.
I took one slow spin around the 'block' - actually, a concession, and the rear tires do throw a lot of stuff up onto the body.
Thanks for posting the pics. They look nice on your LLG GT.
The rear mud flaps are from the accessories catalog? Where did you get the front ones from? I saw that they have to be modified, but I agree that anything that keeps the paint nice will help.
I could use these until I get some of the X-pel for the car. As stated above, you can always remove them for car shows since they are so easy of an install.
