Modding the HEadlight assymbly
Has anyone removed the clear lens and is there a issue to this. I have my car apart and got to thinking that I have seen this on some cars in the mags but aside from the foose havent seen anyone else doing it. I like the open chisled look.
Anyone?

I did it. Well attemped anyway. I got it done, but not that happy with finished product. My goal was to Paint the buckets. That part worked great. Due to lights themselves, you need a lense. Getting them apart is the issue, presuming you want o put them back together. Check here in the older thread/posts; I think I labeled it "Not for the Faint at Heart", good luck

You can easily separate the lenses with a little time in the oven. Do a google search for WRX headlight lense removal and you should find some posts. I did this years ago on my WRX which had issues with an inner lense that would pop off the turn signal bulb.

I'd recommend a heat gun vs. the oven. With a heat gun you have more control as far as how much and where heat is applied. You can basically separate the lense from the housing an inch or so at a time.

There was another issue with removing the lenses and leaving them off , and that was the gap it leaves between the head light bucket and the facia. There were some pictures floating around here , I believe it might have been the CDC car , but it really showed how the gap stands out ...

The CDC Car is a custom bucket, it's not the stock bucket. I sent emails, and the guy that did them responded, told me it was a one off, and because of the sealed lamp they used not being DOT approved, this is not a product they can put in the market (yet). I think it lacked the low/high beam option, and that's why?
But if you are going through the trouble of taking them apart, why wouldn't you try to find something that would close the gaps between the body and the headlamp bucket? I would love to see someone be creative like that. I don't have the time or money yet to do it, but I will as soon as I get a chance.
