How to get off Pre-Painted Mirror Covers???

Ok so Yesterday when I was pulling into the garage and was cutting it a bit close maybe a little too close considering I scraped my driver side mirror cover and the black plastic part on the entrance of the garage.
So, now I want to just pull off the scratched one and replace it with a new one and it is really on there so if anyone has any suggestions I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!! Thanks guys so much!!! I will put up some pics tomorrow...

I did this also, but luckily the scratch was small enough that some touch-up paint covered it up nicely. I'll be interested in the pics.

As far as taking it off, it's held on by double-sided tape, so some heat and gentle tugging should do the trick.

sounds like your old mirror housing is destroyed anyway, soo...you could carefully grind down the lip, use some woven fishing line like you would a window removal tool to cut the tape...hopefully, just heat will soften it up, but that VHB tape is tough. you could get under it with a line now, but I think the lip would push the line too hard against the edge and scuff up the paint- then too, grinding the lip down could do a lot more damage though if you slip

I like the heat idea also. hair dryer. A little goofoff will soften the glue too. squirt some in there if you can.

Wow dude, you really did a number on that mirror! Give the heat & fishing line method a try, but don't force it unless you want to buy a whole new mirror assembly.

For the black part, some 0000 steel wool or a 3M green cleaning pad should get that paint off. Then follow up with some Mothers Back To Black.

I say remove the door. Fill a 5 gal bucket with thinner. Get a friend to help you dip the mirror in the thinner untill the glue lets loose. Reinstall the door. Drink beer

Yeah I don't really see that being an option... I would rather buy a new mirror housing I think.

The heat/fishing line method should work if you take your time and be careful. I also agree with the 3M green pad but again, take your time. I just don't know about the steel wool. Good luck!!
