hood pin placement

What hood pins should I get if I want to place them to the outside of my hood like somewhere over the headlights. I have a cali dream hood, and am thinking about getting the shelby pins, but im not too crazy about the pin placement.

Yeah, the Shelby pins are nice, but their placement is waaaaay off from the proper location for that hood.

I'm guessing you might end up having to fab something.

where the front hood rest on the rubber stops is where I had mine placed. Not the easiest place to install. I took mine to a shop. Some custom work needed to be done.

I drilled out a hole in the center of the outside rubber stops and put my pins through them.

Well here's where I put mine. I went more for the old school hood pin look then the newer thicker hood pins Shelby is offering now.

I don't have any pics under the hood, but basically I just drilled through the center of those outer bump stops, then forced the pin through it. You can put a nut through the pin before you put it through the rubber piece and then when you push it through, put one on the other side too, this will allow you to control the height of the pin, although the pressure from the rubber piece does a good job of holding it in place too depending on how big or small your drill the hole. The rubber piece also has a screw thread pattern on it where it "screws" into the front frame.

I've you're going to do the install yourself, start with the pins first and put them in the rubber bump stops, then put some kind of liquid on top of it (I used shampoo ) so you can lower the hood and the liquid will transfer to the hood when it touches the pin and then you know where to drill into the hood. I'm no car expert and this is the first hood I've ever drilled into and if I was able to do it then anyone can!

Well the Steeda pins have a thread pattern on them, so I put a nut on it that fits the pin but it too large to fit through the hole drilled. It's held in place without budging for over a year and a half, so it's definitely secure.

I also removed the rubber bum stops, I drilled a 3/4" hole from the underside (had to remove headlights) and put a washer on both sides havent had any issues with it
