Hood mod. Anyone work w/ Fiberglass?
Alright, I'm trying something I've never done before. Does anyone know anything about working w/ fiberglass? I'm opening up the louvers on this hood. (don't worry about the crude, rough edges, just getting started)
After I get everything opened up and smooth, don't I need to seal it? What do I use?
After I seal it, is it OK to use self-etching primer?
I'm cutting the top and bottom layers, so there's going to be a void that needs filled. What should I use? I was thinking about using an expandable foam to help provide a little rigidity, and then a nice smooth coat of seam sealer on the exposed edge. Better ideas?
Please advise! Thanks!
John

The one's that I have are pre-painted for that very reason. Originally opening them up was an option. Afterwards, the owner of DCF decided that he wanted the cars to have functional hoods, so the hoods of the unsold cars were removed and new, functional hoods were put on. Mine are 2 of the removed ones.
At least that's what the guy I bought them from told me.

In the first picture - you have two?? Is one Sonic Blue?
If you use that pink expanding polyurethane foam, be careful. As it expands, it will put pressure on the panels and may make them bulge apart if you don't have a way to keep the panels from spreading. But it does trim nicely with a razor blade and would be somewhat easy to paint.

I've got a few friend at some local bodyshops, I think it's going to be best for me to just give them a call... but then I have to wait until tomorrow.

I would have to guess just some 'duraglas' or whatever brand of glass filler could be used in between(like bondo, but has glass chop in polyester resin- real messy/hard to sand...) I'd be careful with using too much of anything as I think it shrinks a bit as it cools/hardens.
I think I'd try getting some 'matt' glass, trim/roll it in the gap where you want it then brush on the resin- that stuff is pretty stiff even when wet, so it will stay put better than the woven cloth when you start brushing on it.
Am I gonna see ya at dragway 42 again this year? We added another head to our family count this year too- another little guy, 2 weeks old now- I need to get one of those power wheels mustangs like you did- too bad they dont come in blue
question- the guy you got these from- does he have a yellow Roush? Wes asked me last year about going together and buying these two- but I was still too torn between a shaker or a cougar eliminator...I did pick up a OEM eliminator scoop, but its just too big for the 06...I'd love to make a one-off 75% sized model of that scoop(and leave room for a KB blower some day)
