"Hireman" (Rear deck badges...)
#1
Bill (and those interested)...
OK, picked up a rear deck/trunk badge today ($33 at your local Ford store)...and established they are held on with two locating pins and adhesive...so removal should be easy. The locating pins differ from the ones on the grill mustang...these are larger and appear to be re-usable (but not sure). They have a cone-shaped black plastic piece as the securing part (included with the part). One must also remove the interior trunk release mechanism cover to access the pins, but that's just a snap-on piece.
I got the vanilla plain Mustang one, as only the inner emblem differs from a GT. As it has the blue tape protective sheet on it, and it is a new part, can you remove the chrome and paint for me without destroying the adhesive? I think I want all black as you did my grill mustang, but might want a touch of color in the inner disc (solid, like maybe matching the "bullitt" wheel finish). Though basic black is appealing also.
Can you let me know if you'd be interested in doing this and how much? I really like the way my all black pony turned out......

It's that big chrome faux gas cap smack in the middle of your rear deck between tail lights, standard item on all Mustangs. I just want mine "not chrome" and with no "GT" script in it.

hey ascout....I can do it.....would have to just see how much work it is but it should be about what the emblem I did ran...give or take 10 bucks or so.

Cool! There's no "raw material" cost, because I already have the part...I can send to the return addy on the pony ya' sent me. I'm thinking solid black, but if I change my mind, we can always work something out...
"Gatorbait"...I don't think he's done one of these yet so no pics to post. I'm not going so much for "custom" paint as I am the mimimalist, monochromatic look. That big slab o' chrome looks very out of place on my car (see pic in my siggie).

Any pictures of the removal procedure for the badge?

That's some good looking paint work!!!
So how do you go about removing the original badge from the car???

I will heat up the rear badge with a hair dryer and use fishing line to break away the double sided tape. I will carefully pull the badge off as I saw away the tape.
Just clean off the surface and reinstall the new one.
At least I hope that's how smooth it'll go...
