Do you think it would be possible to add some hips to the 05 and, if so, how much would that be in your opinion. Although I love the 05, hips would've added that little extra IMO.

I think he is referring to something along these lines.

Oh - the side inserts. I see.

I agree, that would add to the retro look. Maybe that will be something that finds it's way into the future sheetmetal...

No, not the side inserts. He was referring to 'bulging' quarter panels. The musclar lines above the rear tires.

VERY expensive. Anything's possible with enough money though.

Oh - I see again. Very pronounced on the 69 Sportsroof. I would definitely like to see that incorporated into some future sheetmetal...

I think it would be cool if they could be added but that would be a lot of body work.

Don't think so with the rear quarter window. Plus, it would make the rear look REALLY chunky.

But is it possible? Pretty much anything is. At first glance, here is what I would see is invloved (using fiberglass).
- remove rear quarter window.
- weld in metal replacement and smooth
- form "hips" from clay
- make fiberglass molds from clay
- make fiberglass "hips"
- install, smooth, paint
- pray the paint doesn't crack due to the different fiberglass/metal expansion properties

WAAY too much work/money for the end result.
If you are really intersted though, have someone make a chop for you to see what it would look like.

I believe 'hips' is the term for the small rise in the fender line just behind the door (just look at any sixties model and its pretty evident what the 'hips' are).
I agree with adrenalin, probably could be done but only with a lot of work. Have wondered about it several times myself because I thought that was the one element that this design really missed to set off the long hood and short trunk that the mustang is known for. Just cant figure out how to go about doing it short of buying a body in white and just experimenting ... unfortunatly that would require more money than I have to spend.

I agree that "hips" would be the one design feature that would make the 05 better looking than it is already. But I think you would have to remove material forward of the "hip" as well as add material, to get the right look. Very difficult and expensive, but not impossible.

No. Look at the rear quarter panel of a '67 (for one example). See how it bumps up and is not a straight line from the hood to the trunklid?

That is consider a "hip." See highlighted area below.
