Help from the Vinyl masters needed...

Some advice needed, I will be attempting a BSM superstripe install on the hood of my '05 GT, Hood only, Any advice/tips from the pros or other forum members who have accomplished the install. I really don't want to mess this up.

Been there, done that......Mine was going to be hood only too....Didn't end up that way however.....

Read Rob's instructions through a few times. Make sure you have plenty of wetting solution mixed up, and in the squirt bottle. Keep the stripe good and wet while positioning.....

Make sure you have someone to help you peel the vinyl off the backing. It is a huge one piece decal. You need to make sure the stripe does not fold back against itself.....

Understand that with the hood, you are fighting several compound angles at once. At some points, you will think there is no way the vinyl is going to cover, and come out wrinkle free....Eventually it does....

Use your hands as much as possible to smooth the stripe, as opposed to the squeegee....Make sure the roller on the squeegee is clean of any debris.....

Take your time, and have your patience ready!! The pinstripes are an absolute cakewalk.....

Good Luck,
Mike

Remove the windshield washers beforehand too. Clean the surface of the hood real well and have at it!

Got Oatz, is that your car on the BSM website?? Sure looks like it. If my hood turns out half as well as yours I will be dancin' a jig in the driveway! Looks Great, Patience is in short supply in my family, so that will be my biggest hurdle I think, We'll see how it turns out, Hopefully I will have it done by this Saturday. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the compliment. No, not mine on the BSM site, but close....Make no mistake, mine has flaws, and I know where to find em, and how to hide em from the camera....

You'll be fine, just keep em good and wet, and take your time. As long as you keep em wet, you can work with them....

Good luck with it,
Mike

1) Have patience.

2) Have the proper mixture of wetting solution.... I use bottled water, Dawn dish soap, and a splash of rubbing alcohol.

3) Don't do it in the sun or in a hot garage- just don't!

4) Have patience!!

5) Oh yeah for a stripe that size, have an extra set of hands.

I use distilled water to be on the safe side regarding mineral content. Use TONS of solution on the hood AND the vinyl while handling. When smoothing by hand, wear soft gloves (clean Mechanix gloves work well) as they'll slide a little better than bare skin. Once you get it positioned, "pin" it down along the center of the hood, then work out to the sides. This will ensure that it stays straight down the hood vs. starting at one end and working to the other. Most importantly, as stated above, TAKE YOUR TIME! Dont' have 10 cups of coffee before you start.
