Anybody thought about removing headlight covers? I think the 05 looks real good without them. Do they serve any real purpose?

CDC did.

Not sure if they did anything to protect them though. And I really don't like the turn signal thing. Plus, it was on their show cars, so I don't even know if they will sell it for road going cars. But at least it is possible.

I don't care for the covers too much, and CDC did the headlights some justice by putting the turn signals inboard and turning the former spot into vents/intakes(easy CAI locations) I like it.
Now the grill, I don't like.

those are new headlight assemblies, just like popping out the entire plastic headlight, disconnecting the wire, and plugging in the new one.
The only trick to it is the turn signal part.

The stock headlamps aren't sealed to the environment without the lens. The bulb would be exposed to the elements and would likely explode on the first rainy night you drive them.

The CDC lamps use a sealed round lamp (like a round sealed beam) in their system.

Thanks for the update...I suppose it wouldn't take much to install sealed lamps and eliminate those covers.

I remember reading in the owners manual that there are vents into there. So it isn't sealed, let me see if I can find it.

Found it. From the owner's manual, page 35.

Headlamp Condensation
The headlamps are vented to equalize pressure. When moist air enters
the headlamp(s) through the vents, there is a possibility that
condensation can occur. This condensation is normal and will clear
within 45 minutes of headlamp operation.
