I just discovered Ford used at least two different tooling methods for the faux gas cap. Possibly different vendors were used. Although the end product appears identical, they are not. My former '05 GT's faux cap's black center was glued to the chromed part. The "GT" lettering is engrained into the cap and cannot be felt when rubbing your fingers across it. There is another design where the center black portion is one piece with the chromed portion. On these caps, the "GT" is slightly raised. You can feel it when rubbing your fingers over it.

I need to know which year's used which design cap, assuming the change was made with model year. The reason is, I'm looking for the '05 style with removable center section to be used for some custom work. I have the newer one-piece design and cannot use it. So can you guys post up the year of your GT and the style cap you have? I certainly appreciate this.

 

I have an '06 GT built in November of '05. The center cap is smooth.

 

My GT/CS built in 1/07 has the raised GT lettering.

 

I have a 06 built in Sept 05 and it has a smooth center cap.

Seeing a pattern here. Looks like maybe 1/07 the raised letters may have started? Mine was 1/07 with raised and we have a 5/06 smooth.

 

My 07 came with the raised one. Cap popped off and the paint chipped, got it replaced under warranty, and this ones smooth

 

I believe all 2007s got the raised letters.

As far as I have seen, all '07 and up have raised with the black paint that sometimes comes off.
You need either an '05 or '06
