and thanks for that calculation of the tire size to speed i was wondering how far off the speedo would be with the almost one inch over all hight difference.

so if im going faster then its reading that means over the life of the car it will read fewer miles then i have actually drivin right?

 

That is right. If you clock on your odometer 100,000 miles, you will have actually traveled:
100,000 miles * (28.0/27.2) = 103,000 miles
Not really too bad an error and certainly close enough for scheduled maintenance.
Also, as a FYI, your indicated/actual speeds error is just +1 MPH at 50 MPH & less (rounded to the closest whole MPH):
25 MPH = 26 MPH
35 MPH = 36 MPH
45 MPH = 46 MPH
55 MPH = 57 MPH
60 MPH = 62 MPH
70 MPH = 72 MPH
90 MPH = 93 MPH
You could also double-check your calibration by setting the cruise control for the local speed limit and time how long it takes you to travel from one mile marker to the next. Your speed would be:
3,600 / seconds to travel a mile = speed in miles per hour
and of course a GPS would work well too.
