Several strands of dental floss will work if you don't have fishing line. Then you'll need some sort of residue remover for the left-over adhesive. You do know that you'll be left with two holes if you're not intending to put something in it's place, don't you?

I figured what would be left wouldn't be pretty! I want to change it and really don't want to have to pay someone to do it if I don't have to. On the other hand, I didn't have the nerve to just pull it off without asking someone first either.
Thanks you guys.

Yeah, I would avoid the heat, just use the fishing line or floss. As to removing the gluey residue, just use your fingers. You have to be persistent because it takes a while and don't use anything sharp or abrasive.

I am reasonably mechanically inclined but have never been taught/learned jack about cars. Very frustrating!! I am perfectly willing to tear my house to pieces even if I end up paying someone to put it back together, but my car, no way.

Thanks for posing this question, Lynda.
This is exactly the project I've got in mind for my car this weekend...
off with the GT badge, and on with the FORD/Shelby Snake badge.
As far as the heat thing... where to direct the heat? Along, and around the edges? Or just criss-cross back and forth across the whole surface?

I saw one I liked that was black with just a pony on it. I have since lost the link though, but with a little patience I'm sure I'll find it again! I wanted to make sure I could get the old one off before buying the new one
I'm also going to keep the old one if I don't destroy it in case I can't stand the '08 painted one (WTF?!). At least I can use it until I pick another one for that car...

On my 06 I used one of those little "bent" flatblade screwdriver tools to remove the entire medallion. Marcello (of Silverhorse) said that if you gently pry near the keyhole, it will pull right off. I took his advice and it works perfectly. It leaves the adheasive tape in one peice and allows it to be reused. I do recommend doing it when it is warm as the tape will be more likely to release without tearing.
Hope this helps, here is mine with replacement medallion.
