Dumb blonde question/gas cap emblem
On my 06 I used one of those little "bent" flatblade screwdriver tools to remove the entire medallion. Marcello (of Silverhorse) said that if you gently pry near the keyhole, it will pull right off. I took his advice and it works perfectly. It leaves the adheasive tape in one peice and allows it to be reused. I do recommend doing it when it is warm as the tape will be more likely to release without tearing.
Hope this helps, here is mine with replacement medallion.

Top, Inside of keyhole, and work your way around keyhole till it rises enough to get a grip on it. Pulls right up. I did it with my Honeycomb rear blackout panel in place. (I didn't believe either but Marcello said so, and it did.)
Again, I did this eariler in the year and it was much warmer (tape not as brittle), and I took my time. The bend of the 90 degree flatblade (standard craftsman) was just the right angle to give leverage.

If you use some type of pry bar to get it off that might possibly scratch the paint a little trick you can do is to add a layer of masking tape to the pry bar. That will give you some cushion. but you will still need to be careful with it.

No sir. No heat. But now you may need to use some depending on where you plan to do it at. My "pry point" was the plastic edge of the lock. Keep in mind that a firm steady pulling pressure was kept on it at the same time. Once the edge come up, it pulls off fairly easily.
