CS-6 hood arrives....funky

Just wondering if it is normal to have to grind half an inch to an inch of material off of a hood to get it to fit? I got a call from my body shop and they want $500 to grind and prep this hood. Is this a normal thing, or is this hood just a friday quality control issue?

From all the parts I have seen that’s typical for any of Shelby’s fiberglass parts.

You should see their Cobra parts in their raw form.

If you are refering to the front of the hood, yes, mine had it as well but that just was to get the front across the grill to line up with the fenders. As far as the back goes by the window, I had to shim mine (under the hoos struts) otherwise it rubbed up against the platic guard housing the windshield wipers.

Is the $500 just to prep the hood or does that include paint, clear, and buffing too?

WOW...1/2 inch is way too thick....if you grind it down to 1/2 inch, then the hood must be really thick....

How thick is your hood after you had grind it down 1/2 inch? Because that is alot of fiberglass....

The hood is almost a half inch thicker but the inner layer is made from the same stock layer. Under the hood itself you may have issues with roots/twinscrew style super chargers or a strut tower brace. Your CAI should be fine.

I would call whoever you bought the hood before I spent that kinda of money. My Cervini hood came off the truck, out of the box, onto the car for a trial fit and into the paintbooth for curing and primer.

that sounds about right if the 500 includes paint. my hood needed a lot of work to make it look right. the had to cut off the front part to make it line up with the fenders like gary said. after i picked up the car after paint i had to send it back to get it redone and repainted because there were still many imperfections but all the headache was well worth it. but now it is very much stock looking.
