clear corner light custmer service problem
clear corner light custmer service problem
A couple of months ago I installed clear (chrome) parking/corner light lenses...not the APC version which looks a lot like the stock amber ones, but the ones with no side reflector and a lens pattern that matches the fog and headlights. Same time purchased Nokya amber bulbs (did not want chrome, wanted brightness) which are a bit brighter than stock, but also smaller and sit closer to the chrome reflector.
Last night I noticed that the chrome area above the bulb had dulled to a flat silver tone, obviously from the heat of the bulb. Took out the bulb and tried wiping the area, with no improvement.
I have contacted the store where I purchased both products...for now I'm keeping names out of the discussion....and explained the situation. They are "checking" with the manufacturer to see if they have had other complaints, and will "get back to me" I suggested that whether it was the manufacturer or the fact they sold me incompatible bulbs, I expect an exchange. I then got a mouthful of "these are performance products with no implied warranty" and that they had posted in their store and on thir web site to that effect yadda yadda..........I simply want an exchange (replacement) which I will use with regular sized bulbs.
Anybody else had a problem, and what do you think??

Honestly, I wouldn't expect an exchange if I was in your shoes. You've used them for a few months. things go bad over time...some are just accelerated more than others.
I would just take it as lesson learned, and just replace them with regular amber bulbs, or another company's.
Now, if you had them for 2 days and it happened, that would be a different story.

Hey Mike...had 'em 2 1/2 months, but don't really know for how long the finish has been dull....just noticed it last night.
Seems to me that the store (they are lighting specialists) that sold them to me should have disclosed, had they known, of the potential dulling, or if they did not know, make good on what they sold me. I agree things go bad over time, and I realize these are aftermarket parts but almost any automotive product should reasonably go for at least six months before it becomes the customer's problem, barring misuse of course.

With that said, I would just talk to the manufacturer if the store can't come through for you.
But, I wouldn't recommend saying that you "demand/expect" a replacement, as that will just get them (either the store or manufacturer) angry. Instead, I would just try explaining your discontent with the bulbs (and, if you get the run-around, explain that as well), and see what they are willing to do. Then, give them a little push in your favor if needed.
