Single piece tails like this usually have a bit of weatherstripping like padding on the parts not connected to the trunk. I've owned and seen many cars with this setup (ok, mostly Camaros, but point holds) have never seen a wear spot on the paint. The foam gets squished up a bit and there's no gap where light can get through like what appears in that first pic and the right side of the bottom pics.
Looks like the ends of the tail need to curve down just slightly more. Or need to be brought in a bit. Of course with the flat rear deck on the 2G Camaro, expansion of the piece is not an issue. With this, it could be, which may be why there's larger gaps.
