Wondering if I can get fanblades done in polished aluminum. If so how, and about how much? I think they would look awesome like that and Ford seems to have a number of pictures where they seem to try and tease and make them look that way.

The production fanblades actually ARE polished. I think you're looking at pictures of early '05 production GT showcars in which Ford used CHROMED versions of the fanblade. Like the pics below >>

 

the showcars always look great with them....too bad they werent available for 2005.....chromed is my favorite look for them..not sure the cost

 

The production fanblades are only partially polished. The facing sections of each blade are painted silver metallic. The sides of each blade are polished.

Right, I was wondering what I could do to get the whole thing done in polished or even chromed. Is the former possible? Is the latter feasible?

 

Should be possible, you just have to strip the paint and clearcoat off of the stock rims and polish away. Up to you if you want to re-clear coat them afterwards. I would recommend clear powder-coat, since it's tougher.

haha, I definitely can't do it myself. What kind of shop does stuff like this? I imagine not a regular body shop. I'm sorta wanting to know who I should be looking for, what they can do, and what it might cost me. I'd appreciate any answers.

 

You want a metal plarting company for the powder coating. The polishing I am not so sure of.

 

The wheels in the showcar look polished to me. I would have them chrome plated. I can get you the number of one of the top places in the country when I get home.

 

Get yourself a dremel tool and polish them, or send the wheels in to a plating company to have them chromed. Not sure the cost per wheel to have them chromed, but call a plating company in your area and find out.

I'd rather have this look also, not chromed.

The rumor was back when Ford started to put the fanblades into production, they were having problems with getting the aluminum in the "blade" to come out a uniform color while keeping the cost low. So the alternative was to paint them instead.

I'm too chicken to do it and find out that I've got nothing below the paint to work with.
