Coupla things: I am very happy with my hood, but the rear edge kept bouncing or vibrating in the middle on rough roads. I was concerned about this causing stress in the fiberglass later on. I went to AutoZone and got a roll of bulb-type stick-on weatherstripping and applied it to the hood where the factory strip was on the OEM hood. That solved it completely, as the hood is rock solid at all speeds/roads now!

As far as the pins go, I agree, the stainless steel cheapies from AutoZone were only half great. The scuff plates are very thin, and the keys are just chromed, which I chipped immediately. Better scuff plates and keys can be found.

RKSport actually suggested that I cut a hole in the top of my factory air box! That is really dumb, as the air is sucked UP through the filter from below. I suggested that they come out with a new box, but they had no interest. Fang to the rescue! Fang Performance makes hoods with a similar opening, and they are coming out very soon with just such a "top load" airbox that uses a factory-style air filter. A K&N filter upgrade is available and no tune is required. I emailed them measurements and location of my underhood opening and they said that their box should work with RKs hoods. So far, they mention it on their website, but no pictures or prices yet. It was due out early January, but you know how these things go.

I called RK Sports today and suggested they warn there customers about the need for hood pins and also make a suggestion on the right set to use and offer them at the point of sale when purchasing the hood.

A great product, but it shouldn't shake for the money spent.

Just my thoughts.........

I don't have any pics on me that show the underside - but both vents shunt together and then dump the air in right over the stock airbox location through a single opening.
sweet thanks

Actually their idea is sound in its basics - but it of course works better with something like the JLT CAI like I am running - (conical filter, input from all around). Plus I was reading up on the Kenne Bell supercharger and the R&D they did to determine placement of their air filter - which they ended up doing low and on the passenger side, because of the lack of open area to allow more air to get to the filter in the stock position on the driver side. They did alot of testing and found that there could be alot better air movement if the filter was placed differently that in that cramped spot on the driver side

Actually I did see exactly what they were talking about - a few weeks back I played around with the idea of fabbing a tube or vent that could run to the bottom opening on the stock airbox and run it to the fender well or down to the front fascia.......

Yeah there is barely enough room in there to shine a flashlight let alone run a vent (unless you CUT the molding that sits in the top of the wheel well..)

I was considering trying to Macguyver a set up using my current CAI and cutting up the stock airbox...... but the JLT filter is too darn big - plus I have another plan I might be going with that I am currently investigating.....

When I purchased my Hood from RKSport it was also damaged during shipping so I called them. They told me to get an Estimate for the repair and fax it to them. I did and they made a claim with the Shipping Company. I just got the check today.

Here is what my hood looked like when it came off of the truck.

I'd be interested to know if you installed hood pins with your hood and how long it took to put them on. How hard was it?
