STB arrived in the mail today (thanks KC!!). I slapped it on and it fits nicely and looks beautiful. I can confirm the 0.5 in clearance over the OEM plenum cover with the cover installed in the "higher" position. It was dark by the time I got it on so my pictures aren't the best. I'll take a couple of better ones and will check the hood to STB clearance using some play-dough in a plastic baggie this weekend.

Looks like the paint matches your purple car.

Clearance test

I took some play-dough in a baggie and placed it at three points on the STB to check clearance between the hood and STB. First two locations didn't leave an impression but the third (top of bar) squashed the dough to approx 1/8" thick for one bar (See last picture for cross section photo of this piece), the other bar left less of an impression. Here are some pictures. I would guess that unless you are buying or already have the new underhood blanket that you will definitely end up with marks. [I realize the scale is hard to determine from the photos, sorry, I should have put a quarter or something in the photos.]

Yes sorry, very small cordless impact. I could not seem to get the bolts off any other way. I guess I should start going to the gym again.

I'd say it rubs about the same as the BMR one did on my blanket. There will be a pair of small "dents" in the hood blanket from the bars. I'll do my best to remember to take a picture of the marks on the blanket tonight and post up. I wouldn't hesitate to install the FRPP brace though.

I've noticed something interesting with regard to this strut tower brace. It looks like the brace installed in my Bullitt also rubs on the hood blanket. With the hood open I can see two small indentations from the tubular bars. And the other day I opened the hood of my car and noticed some fine black powder on the strut tower brace. My assumption is the black powder-like substance is coming from the hood blanket.

Here is the picture of my hood blanket after having had the hood closed for about a week and 120 miles. The mark in the middle is from my old BMR brace and are very faint. The creases from the FRPP brace should be evident by their shape. Questions?

Here are several pictures of the hood blanket on my 2008 Mustang Bullitt. As can be seen from the pictures there is an indentation in the hood blanket from the brace. Questions?

What`s the worry ?

I`m not the least bit concerned about what the blanket does with this bar. The snaps that hold it in place give it such a loose fit that it floats all over the place. As long as the bar is not impacting the hood itself it`ll be fine.

Its purely a matter of principal. If Ford is selling this car with the brace then it ought to fit a wee bit better. I'll simply be keeping an eye on it and if the indentation gets significantly worse before my 3/36 is up then I'll ask Ford to replace the hood blanket under warranty. On the other hand I may just pick up a vented hood from MRT (when their RELOAD package is released) and call it a day!!
