My car is in the body shop right now getting fixed from an accident I had about a month ago. I decide to get the section between the taillights painted black. I'm not sure what type of black I should go with. Whatever one I do get will have a clear coat over it so that I can wax it.

I realize what I want matters the most but I'm having a heck of a time deciding. Therefore, who better to ask then my fellow Mustang experts! Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I voted Flat.
I've been thinking about this also but I'm not going to paint it. I'm not a huge fan of the vinyl so I'm waiting for someone to come out with a plastic cover up that I like

ok, I have the satin on the hood, but for the back, I am going for the 70s mach1 honeycomb look...see the pics then pop me an email through this forum or by following to me at www.showlenses.com
the honeycomb should be available within a week or two at about $130 est., production pricing will be set by the mfg soon, here is a look at the silverhorse product...so if ya wanna just paint yer stang the stock color in the repair you can
then enhance it w/ true muscle style

hope that helps!
I got yer back, and yer front, covered!

I like the flat black look best, but if you paint it then clear coat it, won't that make the matte black appear glossy?

That honey comb thing just appears too bulkly IMO, good idea though.

not really bulky, just fills the space and fits like a glove

clear is not used for anthing you dont want gloss
paint beats vinyl, honeycomb beats paint, to each his own
no clear on this, just a clear flattener in the paint. i use spray wax on it

If you have the ducktail I agree that you shouldn't black-out the rear.

However, if you have the stock spoiler, then you should black-out the rear.

I voted for satin black.

I do not think that the matte or satin finish can be clear coated or waxed.

The fact that you would have to be careful not to get any wax on that surface may be a deciding factor.
