Will be picking up the new ride on Monday and wondered if anybody has any recommendations on a 2 bike rack for the car. I'm figuring a trunk rack (have the rear spoiler), but also currious if anyone's put a hitch on their car.

Yes you can and should take your bike, but your Mustang it worth having a good rack! This is the best I've seen, Sportworks Transport . It will work with road or mountain bike noting touches the car or bike paint. Other good cycling news it for when your going sole you can get a bike in the 2005 Mustang with the rear seats down (non-shaker1000).

What ever you do don't get a rack from a department store :nono: that straps on to the trunk lid, you will end up with a pedel tearing up your Mustang.

I'd go the hitch route if it would come out looking clean, otherwise :nono: way.

 

Get a good rack and both rides. I've only seen one Mustang with a hitch--he was towing a go kart to the local track. I actually thought that was pretty cool.

Thanks...and yeah, I understand and agree with the conventional wisdom expressed in the other replies -- guess I should've expected it. However, what good is a problem if it can't be solved? I think the hitch route is the best (and only) alternative and I'll check into that. Otherwise, it'll be the Cherokee going with me on all the rides. It'd be a shame though, as the next best ride to a convertible is one on a bike!

I also am a bike rider. The last ride I attended I took my front wheel off my road bike and folded the back seat down and put it in the trunk with no problem. Looked like you could maybe put two bikes if you take more parts off,(Pedals and rear wheel, seat), but I haven't tryed that yet. Shaker 500 in mine.
Everyone was wondering where I was going to put my bike when I got back to the car after the ride.

Wow, lots of really unhelpful responses here. I'll have the same issue when my stang arrives as it will be my only vehicle. I'll probably just go the trunk route for my bike with the seats folded down, but I am interested to hear if you find a better way that won't tear up the paint.

 

The Saris Bones I used on my acura works just fine on my Mustang and does not leave a single scratch. A bike fits perfectly inside with the seats folded down, but not so well if it's muddy. I'd like to see a picture of a hidden hitch brand hitch too...
