Best Price For A Shaker Hood???

Finally Got The Money To Buy A Shaker Hood And Was Wondering On The Best Price. I've Asked The Following Question Before But The Only Answer I Got Was Do It Yourself. So Here's The Question How Much Would It Run Me To Get This Shaker Hood Installed??

THE BEST PRICE I FOUND WAS THROUGH MOSS MOTORS FOR $745 SHIPPED.

Don't know, we all did it ourselves.
Sorry couldn't resist. I have no idea how much it would cost. I really don't think anyone on the forums has paid to have it installed, or at least none that have voiced it.
I still say save the coin for other mods and do it yourself.
$745.00 shipped is a good price. I got mine from MustangTuning.

Seriously, do it yourself. It's not nearly as difficult as it looks/sounds.

1. Get a helper and a cloth measuring tape and spend a decent amount of time finding that exact centerline of the hood. (Think an install shop will take their time?)

2. Buy some green or blue painter's tape and tape off the ENTIRE hood. (Think they will do that?)

3. Take your time and put that template down exactly where it belongs around the nozzles and on the centerline. (Think they will do it perfectly?)

etc., etc., etc....

The point I'm making is that it may take you 5 times longer to do it, but if you take your time it will be done perfectly!

And as a side note its not really that hard.....just takes time to be precise. Tape the hood (and i taped the top of the quarter panels so i didn't scratch anything) line up the stencil, cut with a razor (make sure its deep enough to cut to the metal...this will prevent chipping) and cut with a saw. I wouldn't charge you either (though i wouldn't turn away a whiskey on the rocks after we're done =).....it will just be more practice till i install mine.......I've already done my friends install.

Taking your time is key.

I spent roughly an hour to cut the hole in my hood and I've been doing fabrication for years. I would only cut a couple inches max at a time and then let the saw blade (32 TPI - highest grade I could find) and hood cool. There are some areas where you will be cutting through double material in the inner hood.

BTW - on my car the windshield washer nozels were perfectly positioned.

Leo, if you don't have any tools or you lack some detailed mechanical skills, I understand why you're seeking for some help.

If however you do have the necessary tools and skills, definately attempt it yourself. CDC gives you some margin of error and flexibility on the trim rings incase you goof a little bit, so don't think the whole procedure has to be dead nuts.

It's cool that stoic21 is offering to help you out. Good luck.

Thumbs up ....

Well I pulled the trigger and ordered the shaker from moss mustang. I got a qoute from jba in San Diego for 270 to install it. Although I'm still willing to take up any of your offers to help with the install.

Me and the wife later today.

Me regardless.

I agree!! You should do it yourself.. There is much more satisfaction out of doing it yourself.. Besides, think of all the parts you could get for $745.. Man, I could get my entire suspension hooked up for that.. You could by drag radials, or slicks.. You could change your gearing... You could buy an aluminum driveline.. You could add nitrous!! LOL!! The list goes on and on, on what you could add with $745!!

Trust me, you will regret giving someone else your hard earned money for something so easy to install... You can do it man.. Have faith in yourself.. Ask questions over and over.. But dont pay for it!!

I'll make a deal with you.. I'll do it for $500.. LOL!!

My bad.. The Shaker system cost $745.. Gotchya!! $270 to install it sounds real fair..

NO WAY IN HELL I WOULD PAY 745 FOR AN INSTALL. ALTHOUGH YOUR RIGHT FOR $270 I COULD BUY SOMETHING ELSE FOR HER. I'M JUST WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE TWO MEMBERS WHO OFFERED TO HELP. AFTER I TALK TO THEM I'LL DECIDE WETHER OR NOT TO PAY $270. I CAN'T WAIT. I'VE WANTED THIS SINCE I FIRST SAW THE PICS IN 05.

Leo- I have some step by step pics in my album link in my sig below, just for reference, regardless if you do it yourself or have it installed by someone else. It's always good to see what's all involved.

There were a LOT of little tweaks we (Bill, Daryl, and I) did to make the shaker fit as perfectly as possible. Still not sure a shop would take the time to care as much as if you did it yourself. I would rather you got help from a TMS member so you could be part of the install.

Like Tom said, if you're the kind of person who shoots for perfection (like you'll have a cow if the Shaker scoop is off-center a 1/16"... you know what I mean), I could almost guarantee that you won't be happy with the install. Shops make money by not spending hours on end on a job and may take short-cuts on certain things.
Of course, not all shops are like this, but those are the exceptions to the rule.

....

stoic 21 offered to help with the install. He installed his friends so obviously he has practice. Hopefully we'll be able to do it sometime this week. I might just go get it done at the jba shop in san diego though since they've done several installs already and it's less of a hassle than driving an hour and a half to stoic21 location. I know everyone wants me to do it myself or atleast get help so I'll sleep on it.

I got mine from Mustang Tuning for $755 shipped.

Web price shows $795, but if you call your order in, they may give you the same 5% break they gave me.

If they have it in stock, it may be worth your time to cancel your order through Moss and re-order it from MT.

.....

Thanks for the info tac0bill but I called moss mustang today to ask about the status and found it will be a week. I'm going to wait because when I called I also found out it's not $745 it's $731. That's an awesome deal there. I haven't seen anyone do it cheaper.

Has anyone seen somebody paint their shaker scoop black??? I have a black car and was wondering how that would look. Also I was wondering what's this mod were people are putting in washer to elevate the scoop?

I'm not sure if I would like the scoop in a gloss paint finish. It's like me painting my scoop Torch Red.

It comes already in a nice matte black and I'm sure it'll look great on a black car.

And, any reason why you want to elevate the scoop higher than its original design? To me (and I'm sure to the majority of others), it's at the perfect height.
