American Muscle Painted Retro Headlight issues
Well, this issue is finally approaching closure as I picked up the locally painted set last night... which of course, came out perfect. Pictures to follow once I get them swapped out.
glad to read Chrisrose was trying to do everything he could in the posts, but my suggestions to AM would be immediately implement some receiving inspection before putting painted stuff on the inventory list (maybe some various lighting sources- certain lights wash out inside, making stuff appear totally different than real sunlight), AND simply offer stuff unpainted- surely lots of guys are doing bumper/hood conversions and would rather have all the exact same paint/prep done by the same hands using the best materials for best match in both color and finish...
too bad you guys had to go local after all the delays anyways- but glad youre almost finished!

Just for the record, Chris Rose did nothing to help get this resolved... The only thing that got my issue moving was the help of 05yellowgt who hooked me up with a very responsive AM CS manager.
But you are right as they should just offer an unpainted option as Chris made it very clear that AM is unable to get good paint results with the lighter colors. And given their inability to send me a good painted Alloy version for several months, it would appear those issues span farther than just the light colors.

This 4 month fiasco is finally coming to an end as the replacements that AM paid to get painted at my local shop came out great and are now on the car. I also had another small issue with one of the original bulb assemblies, so AM sent out another complete replacement set (which was overkill for a bulb). Of course they sent a complete Alloy painted set, so I decided to compare the paint on this latest set with both the other 2 sets (the original set painted by AM and set I had painted locally) and I could not believe the poor paint quality. This set was actually worse than the original set they sent and I find it hard to believe something like this would get past any good QC process. This explains why they could not get me a good quality set for the past 4 months, but I can only hope this set does not get cycled back into their stock.
It became pretty clear throughout this process that AM can easily address a simple part for part exchange or refund. Had AM simply taken real ownership for this issue from the beginning and not kept stringing me along, this could have been a much better experience for everyone involved.
Since I doubt AM will ever approve and publish my honest, but non-flattering review that I submitted on their site a month ago, hopefully this thread will provide other potential buyers some real feedback on the paint quality on this part. Although AM did finally make this right, I expended way too much time and effort chasing them to get it done.
In the end, I would never recommend a painted AM part and will be hard pressed to ever use them for any future purchase.

I have been chatting with another guy who is having the exact same problem with trying to get a Vista Blue set. He received a set in March that had paint defects and has yet to receive a quality replacement set. He just checked in with AM last week and was told they now had 7 sets in stock... but of course when he asked to have them inspected, all 7 sets had paint issues. All I can say is amazing.
Maybe AM should just start offering an unpainted option.

Doug is correct , I can't believe as much as they tout their painted products , that they can't get a competent painter. Here's a shot of mine once they were painted locally and there is absolutely no bleed through. Also the inside of the vents are actually painted , not just with over spray as they came from AM. And the lip that is partially hidden when the buckets are installed is completely painted too , that's the part that Chris said was acceptable to just have over spray on it. They did finally make it right , so I have to give them credit for that , but this should never have happened
