An added touch of chrome

I ordered chrome bezels for the third brake light and the taillights. I was thinking I could do something for the front as well. Here is a modified photo of what I was thinking. It is reminiscent of the 1964/1965 Mustang. I haven't seen it done for 2005/2006 Mustangs so far (I don't know of any trim/accents distributors that have this). I will check out my local store for any chrome tape/stick on that I could use to make the effect more realistic, see what it looks like. I was thinking of taping it on the black plastic edge of the grille. It would be a U-shapes so I get one continuous piece.

Not the best photo chop. I am looking for your valuable opinions. What do you think?

I have done this on my car and I really like the results... It would be nice if the chrome was a little thicker to show up more, but how it is now is still pretty nice and subtle...

All I did was add chrome trim that I bought at Pep Boys and ran it around the lip of the grill. It's a bit tough to do when the grille is in (especially around the corners), but do-able... I did it to both my stock grille and my new Pony Grille... I have attached a couple pictures which should give you an idea of what it would look like!

Wow! I didn't think it would look that good! (I only had my photo to work with) That is very subtle. Did you just do the U, or the full contour of the grille. I'll see what my local store has in terms of trims.

Thanks very much for the photos, that really helps.

Your welcome!

I just did the bottom 'U' part since the top really ins't visible unless you're looking from the ground up... Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what the name of the chrome was off hand...

Thanks John!

I have the chrome on the rear tail lights as well... My color scheme for the car is:

Outside: Silver/chrome, Mineral Grey, black (red too, but only on the calipers)

Inside: Satin silver/chrome, red and black

So the chrome accents work well with the color scheme I have been trying to keep with... I even did the same chrome trim around the interior door panel which was also subtle but looked nice... There was a few other places I wanted to add it too, but no where that I could easily hide where the end met up with the beginining of the chrome strip...

I went to my local Canadian Tire (I'm in Canada), got the "StyleGuard" wheel/body molding 18 foot 3/8" chrome strip. It has red 3M tape. These guys make it: www.cowlesproducts.com. Not sure if that is what you used Jay. When I install it and I'm happy with it, I'll post pics.

Like Jay, I've been looking for locations on the car to put this chrome. I am thinking going around the lower grille and meeting the ends at the top where it won't be too noticeable.

The Parnelli-Jones car looks good with the chrome, I noticed it goes completely around the grille. It looks less subtle.

Oh crap, I can't remember if I used the 'StyleGuard' stuff or the 'Custom Chrome' stuff... I think I bought both at some point, but if I remember right, I *think* I used the 'StyleGuard' stuff for the grille... I *do* remember it was the 'U' shaped stuff, cause it had the adhesive inside the strip I applied. It makes it easy to push onto the grille, except for the corners, they are a bit of a pain if the grille is still on the car...

The lower grille might look cool, but be very tricky! Good luck on that! I wanted to try and do the outline of the quarter window in chrome, but I didn't like that you could see where the chrome begins/ends, no matter where you start it.

Definitely post pics when your done!

Here is a pic of the finished product. I like it a lot, looks much nicer in person. I stuck it to the upper grille. 3/8" is perfect fit. I didn't have much trouble installing the molding.

I tried to do the lower grille, but the grille curve is very tight, especially the upper part of the lower grille, it's more a corner. For StyleGuard, this may be too tight. The Custom Chrome looks more flexible.

Can't wait till I get my taillight bezels and third brake light bezel.

Thanks again for the pics, Jay.

Turned out great! It definitely looks good in person! Subtle, but effective!

Glad I could help!
