3M vinyl has screwed those of us w/ silver stripes

I no sooner get my stripes installed, when I find out 3M no longer makes the same silver color that I bought from BSM. I talked to Rob at BSM and he has exhausted every avenue and told me no more satin silver period! The new silver is a completely different shade and is a high gloss. Rob did have a scrap piece of the satin silver he sent me for my Shelby front bumper, but my problem is when I get an aftermarket hood, hopefully around December, I'm either gonna have to have my whole car restriped with the new silver that 3M offers or bite the bullet and shell out $1200.00 for paint. Is there anyone else w/ silver stripes that's planning on a new mod such as an aftermarket hood, bumper, or spoiler? What are you gonna do? Is $1200.00 reasonable for painted stripes?

By the way, I'm not bashing BSM at all, Rob has been really great trying to help me and sent me the scrap piece for my front bumper. 3M is the problem. I just wanted to make sure that was clear.

My stripes are faded/stained as it is. They are also now flat, where the rest of hte car is shiny. I won't mind having the car redone with new stripes.

I do feel your pain though. If I had the money, I'd have them painted and be done with it.

Thanks for letting me know about this Rob. I kind of goofed my front bumper a bit, but I guess I'm going to have to live with it. Good thing I kept my scraps.

Glad my installer gave me a 5 year warranty against fading.
I have metallic pewter rather than straight silver on mine, but they aren't 3M, they are avery or another brand he showed me I can't remember, but both vendors had my color as an exact match, so looks like for now I'm still safe.

Yet more reason why paint is the way to go. It may cost more but worth it in the long run.

i went to my Ford collision center and they were going to charge me $1700 for painted shelby stripes and a lifetime warrenty on the paint so yeah $1200 is reasonable

I wish I could get stripes done here in California for $1700. They would already be on the car. The rate here is 2500 to 3000 where I live.

Talking Another reason to get them painted ...

I posted this on another thread (however never thought of this one).

Why not have them painted instead? I've seen stripes crack, fade and peel on other older Mustangs that have had vinyl stripes. I intend on getting mine painted.

Just get the stripes painted. You dont have to worry about all the crap that goes along with the vinyl stripes then. You get what you pay for.

Decided to get them painted today. Already talked to the shop about it. I'll be removing my vinyl this weekend and getting it to the shop next week. It's gonna postpone my shelby 500 GT front end conversion by about a week though. I'll start a new thread about it soon.
